View Full Version : Hearing music through Sub...

I recently finally got my sub working by splicing the amps remote on wire into the headunits. The sub & amp work now, but you can hear the music through the sub as well as the bass. No other wires were touched and the only connection from the HU to the amp is the remote power & a set of RCA Monster cables (non-fading).
Any clues?

Need a little more info.
Sorry if this is too basic for you, but do you have a crossover? Either on the amp, HU or a seperate unit?

Their are Xovers in the speakers & HU.
HU is a Kenwood z919
Speakers are Boston Acoustic Ralley RE620's
Sub is a Boston Acoustic Competetor
Amp is an Orion Cobalt 150w
I've had this setup for a while and it's just now doing it.

what rossover are you running from(type)? built into the amp or a seperate unit altogether?

I'm gonna say built into the HU. The amp does have settings but it's all for the sub. The HU lets me choose what frequencys get filtered for each side.

To add... the speakers have Xovers we installed into the door but they're set to the default settings.

Lemme try to explain what happened a little more clearer:
Everything worked fine a few weeks ago.
Battery crapped out & had it replaced.
Noticed sub & amp weren't working & had the line tested. No power from the HU remote to amp.
Radio worked fine.
Asked an audio store what to do. Tech said to just splice the remote wire into the red wire on the HU.
Did this tonight and sub works, but music also comes out.
No other wires were touched, crossed or moved.
I'll try that some more. I just didn't want to break it when i was so close.

i'm not positive but if i member correctly(been years since i been into stereos and ****, like over 10...lol) if i remember correctly there should be a remote wire on the head unit. not the red one but usually its blue i think and the remote antenna is yellow i think. something like that. just so i can see this a bit clearer you should have 3 wires on your HU being used besides the speaker wires if your running speakers of the HU. 4 wires..sorry. power, ground, remote antenna, and remote to amp.
like i said its been a while since i been into the sound system gig. i got 2 12 kicker competitions with lots of mileage on them, 8 ohm...lol

Yea it was originally hooked to the remote wire. That decided not to work suddenly.
Well, I dunno what I did but I think it's working. I played with the wires & settings & no good. I went inside to take a squirt, came back out & turned it back on. There's now more bass and I don't think I can hear regular music anymore, can't tell because I kinda hear what's coming from the cabin speakers.
Keep the suggestions coming, and thanks for the help so far!

that happened to me once, I had to disconnect my battery cable for something, and when I turned my sound system on, I didn't get any bass out of the sub, just music. I was baffled cuz the amp was set to lo-pass and all the connections were fine. Turns out the settings on my stereo got reset; there was a setting in the stereo to turn on the sub, lo-pass or hi-pass. So I can basically switch between those from the headunit instead of the amp.

I had this problem on mine, too. Check to see if the filter (if equipped) is set to normal... otherwise, set it to Low, so that it filters out everything above say 200Hz.

Turn the electric Xover on the orion amp all the way to the left, this will take the voice out of the subs. I had the same problem when i first got my system. If that doesnt fix it completely, look at getting a 10band xover by either ma audio or sony.
