Ok, I just bought my first Cougar about 2 weeks ago, and I'm ready to start doing mods. It's a Laser Red 99, so the headlight inserts are black. I was thinking about painting them chrome because I wanted to do the rest of my exterior in chrome. But then I was looking at the Duplicolor spray paint and they have that new Mirage paint kit in three different styles. You know, the paint that changes color depending on the angle you're looking at it in. The color schemes are a little strange, I don't remember all three of them, there is green/purple and red/blue. I forget the third. Just wondering what you guys think.

personally i thik the stock head lights look good, although chrome sounds really nice. I think I would go with that, just dont make it look ricey, some ideas would be the chrome "cougar" logo from vindzdecalz.com and some nice 17's or 18's in chrome of course. The mirage sounds pretty cool. If your dead set on that, then go with the red-blue. Too bad theres nothing like Red-Organge, I like colours that flow. Best of luck and dont forget to post pictures when your done.
I heard awhile back from one of my friends that the chrome speay paint doesn't look very good after it's sprayed on. I've never personally seen what it looks like, but if you choose to do this, maybe get a scrap piece of plastic or something to test it out on first. It would suck to go through all that work and have it not turn out!
Color changing paint sounds interesting. I would like to see what it looks like though. Maybe pick this up and do a test piece too? Good Luck!

Once you paint something you need to clear coat it and there lies the problem with chrome paint. It looks nice (I wouldn't say just like chrome) when you put it on something, but then you have to clear coat it. When you clear coat it, the paint goes from a chrome like look to a shiney grey look.
Ive tried chrome paint and basically it looked silver on plastic- didnt shine at all and was very flat finish. Might work better on bare metal (like it was intended for, being a chrome bumper repair paint). I'd stay away from both actually- I like the look of the body-color inside the headlights. Heh- everyone outside of neco seems to think that the plastic cover over the lights is tinted dark...the just cant believe that its clear as can be.:)

I'm really not too keen on chrome paint either - unless it's factory like my headlights...I have no idea how you would get that true chrome color. I definitely wouldn't get a mirrored cougar sticker for the front winshield...stickers that say things like "HONDA" or "COUGAR" in my opinion are just kind of redundant, it's not like you dont' know what kind of car it is.
Personally on a laser red cougar - I really like silver headlights. It looks sharp, w/o the tacky look of non-factory chrome. That, or laser red to match your car. I don't think the mirage paint would look good - the plastic color over the headlight pieces are going to dull it, I doubt it you would notice the color change.

Either have them Fantachromed or use Alclad (sp) chrome paint with a gloss black base (airbrush). Cheaper than having them dipped. Alclad you could do same day. Fantachroming, you'd need to find a shop that has the equipment.

Yep........chrome, aluminum, etc.....all looks grey once you clear coat it....
as far as the other paint you are talking about.............there was a guy here in Florida NECO (PhatCat00....maybe PM him for pics) that had flames like that on his car....looked pretty good.....dont know if I would try it on a red car though
Good luck,
Sunni :)

Use Duplicolor Chrome Paint. No need to clearcoat. Looks Amazing. Can tolerate heat up to 500 degrees (perfect for brakes or headlights).

I used the Duplicolor green/purple on my engine accents. Looks fine after at least a year.
The green looks like the factory DT green IMO at least under the hood, then the purple adds a bit of splash.

I agree with Sunni...I wouldn't do it with the green changing color, on a Laser Red car..... Just IMO
