I'm being driven mad ! :banghead:

My car's developed the most annoying habit, I can't stand it any more. :banghead: :banghead:

The trims around the rear windows (or portholes as my rear pasengers call 'em) in my car are rattling like hell and it's gotta be sorted. The rattle kicks in under acceleration (99% of the time for me) at high revs. Has anyone else got this or have any idea how to solve it.

Any help will be well appreciated.

I need help now, PLEASEE !!!

Cheers in advance,

Stu.

I've not had the problem myself but one thing I have noticed since getting my exhaust is that under the same circumstances, hard acceleration etc I get some new weird and wonderful rattles although I usualy pin it down to change vibrating around my car and stuff do you think it could possibly be the cause ? has it always done it?

Do you have a picture of the area? sounds stupid but, is it the rubber type seal? or is the noise from behind it?

The rattle seems to be the plastic on the inside around the rear windows. Rather than a seal it is the actual trim (creamy coloured plastic). The noise has indeed started since the exhaust was fitted but I've done about 15K since then so I couldn't tell if this has started it. I've had a panenger press the trim part when it has been doing it and it stopped so I'm pretty confident that it is the actuall trim and not anything behind. If I can work out how to remove the part and refix it then this may resolve it. If anyone knows then I may be able to fix it (Haynes manual doesn't say how).

Failing this I'll have to pay an interiors company to do it and they'll charge a fortune I'm sure.

Thanks again.

Me again.

Along the same sort of theme, has anyone come accross a thread on eliminating dash rattles? I seem to remember something about stripping down the dash and fitting padding between joining pieces but I can't remember for sure.

Cheers.

Yeah, I stripped down my dash and stuck some 4mm foam strip on all the contact faces....It has helped the problem but hasn't eliminated it.

Think I'll take it to bits again in the summer and see what else I can do.

The foam should work on those rear plastic trims you're talking about though. Some of the clips that push into the bodywork I noticed were metal. I would try putting a smear of grease on them before pushing them in.
