Just wondering how, if need be, I can change my power steering fluid? I've heard too many recent stories of people's power steering goin out and realized I've never really checked mine.

IIRC...its been awhile.

get 2 quarts of new fluid and dont get it all shook up (full of air bubbles). if it is shaken up, let it sit for a couple of days.

disconnect the crankshaft sensor ( so the car doesnt start )

the reservior has 2 hoses, a supply line (bottom one) a return line (top one).

pull off the return line and catch the fluid the runs out from the hose and the reservior. then you place a cap over the nipple where the hose was.

put the hose in the catch can and fill the reservoir with fresh fluid. have someone crank the engine as you continue to add fresh fluid (dont let it suck air!), you would use about 2 quarts. reconnect the return line and top off the reservior to the max mark.

reconnect the crankshaft sensor and start the car.

have your freind slowly turn the wheel from stop to stop several times (dont hold it at the stop more than 5 seconds!). make sure the reservior stays at the full mark. this will help purge air from the system.

if the system is noisy after this procedure, you have air in it and you can try purging it again after a couple of days. if its still noisy, you might have to have someone vacumm bleed it.

pretty simple prcedure really.

good luck.
