View Full Version : What happens when your cat coughs?

I left to go get gas yesterday and as I pulled out of the parking spot my car hesitated. Not an unusual thing to have happen when it is only 40 degrees. Then she took off like normal. I thought all was fine and continued on normally. I drove no more than a quarter mile and the oil light flickered and within the time I could push in the clutch I heard the worst sound any car guy can hear. You guessed it the engine on my 21000 mile 2000 cougar blew sky high.

Let me run down a couple of things for anyone who may know about this. What I am interested in is i any of you are fluent in the Florida lemon law. I have had the car for less than a year and have had it in the shop 5 times now. The first time was for a leaking oil pan gasket and crank timing sensor seal, second time for a fuel pump, third for a rear main seal and oil pan gasket(5 months after the first one), fourth time for a new fuel gauge. Now it sits again in the shop awaiting a new powerplant.

Anyone that knows anything about how the law is written or has gone through this before I am in dire need of help. Any amount of input would be greatly appreciated thanks.

If I am not mistaken, a car has to have the same problem numerous times for the lemon law to apply.....but it can have numerous different problems and not qualify....

I think

I'm possibly thinking that you can beat the law with some verbage. Like instead of saying oil pan gasket refer to it as oil system seals. It broadens the possibility of what can happen to the car. Don't know but I am try to find an attorney to help.

Here's your main problem...You're driving a Ford...lol...Honestly I bet if you looked into all your problems probably show up on the recall list...I've seen a recall list before and it's about 3 pages long for the 99' 00s...I know because I had 3 of them done on mine at no cost...Look into it and you're probably covered...I know it doesnt make it any less pain in the ass but after I had my recalls fixed I haven't had one single problem at all...And I'm pushing 65,000 miles right now...Best of Luck

My Cougar is full of problems as well. I constantly have to take it to the shop and I've made many complaints on the forums. Phatcat is right, Fords suck ass. I'm considering trading in my car for 02' 3 series BMW.

A little update on the coug. As it sit at the dealership it only took them a week to even look at it. The best that they could tell me is there was an internal failure in the engine. As if this was something I didn't know. So to make a long story short they said it should be ready in two weeks. It only took them three weeks to change the rear main seal. :bs:

I contacted an attorney and hes is working on a case of lemons for me. He said that the lemon law is full of many loopholes around how things are worded. He also stated that I should have no problem as far as this falling under the lemon law. I know not to trust any attorneys but he don't get paid unless I win so it gives him a little bit more motivation.

If there is anyone interested in the Mitsubishi Evolution VIII that will be available next month it is going to be released for around $36,000. So basically you get a regular Lancer with a body kit a turbo and all wheel drive. Seems kinda overpriced to me.custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

Steven, where have YOU been? You pop up outta nowhere every now and then. Good to hear from you too, except i would have hoped it be under better conditions. I hope things work out for you with that lemon law. AS for that EVO, that is a pretty sweet vehicle, but i think the WRX STi is better. There are some good discussions on both cars in the "Garage Talk" folder that you may enjoy if you are looking into a new car. The guys that hang out in that folder really know their new/future car stuff!

Hope to see you at a meet sometime soon. You going to make it to the Sebring Race ofr the 2nd Bday party of FL NECO? SHould be a good time.

Hey all I don't know if I am going to get a new car or not but if I do I am leaning to the WRX.($26,500 nicely equipped)

The attourney is not fighting this through the lemon law, he is taking it though the federal warranty law. It's another one of the laws that most people never knew existed. I just hope that it all turns out for the best. He has asked me not to talk about this with anyone but it is eating at me.

Anywho I am going to try and make it to the race but it don't look too good right now. I hope to be able to get to some more of the meets but I have a lot in the air right now that will hopefully calm down in the next couple of months. Well hope to see you guys again soon I know I will be in Orlando for at least one weekend in May. My parents are getting ready to buy a house there and they will be there for the entire month.

I will keep you all posted on the dealings with the car all the way till it is solved.

I hope they come up with a win for ya and you get the new car. that would be sweet!!! i have been trying to figure out how to afford a Z, and they are just not dealing on them very much, nor offering me anything substantial on my cougar. arghhh
