View Full Version : Dual Exhaust Question

I could not find an answer to this question from searching, so I figured I would post it. With my exhaust setup I used two 5zigen Fireball mufflers and I took them to Meinekee to do the piping. I do not think it is mandrel bent, but it splits using a y-pipe. My question is does the exhaust like to favor a side for most of the fumes to come out of? With mine, most of it comes out of the left side with hardly anything coming from the right. It looks kinda stupid with one muffler working with the other just sitting there. Is this common among dual exhausts or is mine just retarted? And is there any way to fix this?

it's common, air flow will always take the path of least resistance. if one muffler has less restriction that's where all the airflow will go untill it matches the resistance of the other muffler. the mufflers could be off from one another cause of what day it was built, who built it that day, etc...

IIRC fireball mufflers are a straight through design right?? There for there isn much resistance with the mufflers at all!!

Yeah, they are a straight through muffler, so I am not sure that it is the mufflers. The exhaust seems like after it splits, all of the air flow is all going to one side, rather than both. The left side almost shakes when at full throttle, but the right side does nothing. When idle, smoke just slowly rolls out of the right side almost like there is a fire inside the muffler, rather than the normal smoke that comes out from most exhaust systems.

Ok, this may be a supremely stupid question, but are you running an I4 or a V6?

I'm guessing that an I4, even with a Y-pipe, will have a bias in the way the exhaust runs. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is nutso. (And that is definitely my opinion, I have nothing to back it up with) :cover:

The only other thing that I can come up with is that one of the guys at Meineke hates you. And he plugged all but a little hole in your right side. :)

I'm running a V6, and I don't think anyone at Meinekee has anything against me considering I know no one that works there. Maybe they have something against my car, but why would anyone feel that way about a COUGAR.
