View Full Version : For those people doing an engine swap, I think I found the solution to the PATS problem.

Go to this link: River Oaks Car Stereo (http://www.installer.com/cars/ford.html#)

Then scroll down past the wiring harnesses for the radios to: TBFD1 Ford Transponder Bypass $29.95

Now if this truly is a bypass as described I would think that it would solve the problem of the PATS system when swapping engines (2.5L, 2.5L SVT, and 3L).

Sorry but I'm a little slow

Is this a bypass for having a the chips in our keys? or something completly different?

It's a bypass so when you switch engines and computers your old key will work in the ignition to start the car. So yes, it bypasses the need for the chip in your key to match the computer.

Is this Bypass unit a loop hole for someone to steal a ford?

Thanks

nothing works as good as picking up the phone and making a phone call...

anyhow this unit is made to work with a remote car starter. Essentially when you activiate your remote car starter, this unit will by-pass the key transponder unit and tell the ECU to let the car start. To make it worthwhile for engine swaps you would need to flip a switch each time you try to start your car, AND the switch would then need to be turned off as the unit was only designed to run intermittently....

I did pick up the phone and make the call and was told it would work as I described, but if what you are saying is correct Puck, then you would just need to use a push button to start the car.

Puck's got it... you would need to switch it on and off, otherwise you're going to send a signal when the computer isn't asking for one... and it probably will result in a CEL being thrown for no good reason.

well unless you already have or plan on adding a push button starter...

to get it reprogrammed at a dealer cost you about 100$, this unit cost 25$ + shipping.... so say 30$ by the time it gets to your door, plus installation time and other fixings you'll need.... now add price of push button starter and what not.....

for something that is known to work without headaches, including in the future (this device may cease to work or not work flawlessly)... i would just stick with a dealer reprogramming....

point taken....

they need the car there for the reprogramming? that would only make sense, but i might as well ask.

personally i'd just call Triple AAA tell em my car wont' start and ti's a free tow, but it may not be for other people.
