View Full Version : Door WIndows Relay
Just to note for those for the future - i recently had a problem with my drivers side window - no operation.
I investigated and found that pin 3 on the relay( inside the door in the top corner) had suffered from a soldering dry joint, once resoldered the window works fine.
The relay design with respect to the surface pad area is very small for the current transfer- and then along with small car vibrations is all it takes for the unit to fail.
Hope this will help all other members that may see this problem at some point?

Thanks for the tip....my drivers side window sometimes refuses to work, usually if I haven't operated it for a while. Pressing the button a few times sorts it out, so maybe my relay has a bad connection too.
Cheers for that :)

I am having this same problem. I have played with the relay some and if I squeeze the 2 pieces together real hard then the window controls work fine. You mentioned resoldering but I don't see a way to get to the wires. What did you have to do to get them out of the plug? I assume you are talking about the green part of the connector and not the white piece.
Thanks,
David
You first need to remove the relay , there is a small screw that hold it in place on a bracket about 1 inch long, you can then with a small flat blade screwdrive open the connection block, and remove the relay from the connector - it not easy! once you have done this , you then need to remove the actual relay form the housing, for this you will need to small flat blade screwdrivers or simlar.
Once you have done this you will see the contact of the relay - mine was dry jointed on pin 3 but while you have it a part, resolder them all - only 30 watt irons! or so or you could burn out the PCBA track which is poor!- also make sure that you use a multicore solder.
My has worked fine since this liitle exercise
Good Look

Ok. not sure what all the part names mean. :-P
I pulled out the green piece that has the wires in it. I then popped off the blue cover and took out the red gasket. Now all I am left with is green plastic and the wires. Does the green piece actually come apart? Do the wires push through or do you have to pull them back? I feel like the connector is taken apart, but still cant access the solder joints.
LOL I don't guess you have any pictures or are willing to take it apart again. ;-)
WHen you look in the green part do you see the metal contacts from the sockets connection? there are 4
it is this that needs to be carefully opened a very fine flatblade screwdriver will work if it is applied on both sides , you then should be able to carefully remove the relay form its housing.
I do not own a digital camera so i am not able to attach photographs - sorry
Once you have removed the relay you should re-solder all of the pins i would suggest- and please be carefull of the tracks.

Same thing happened to me.I had the window motor and relay replaced under warranty.
The new relay costs £18.
