I can get this Kenwood KDC-X659 for $315CDN. What are peoples opinions with Kenwood? I have never had their headunit before and was just wondering how good they are....

thanks

thats an excellent deal, especially for an excelon model...
i love my kenwood deck..it's a little slow loading mp3 cds, but other than that its been great.
sony blows. never buy a sony deck.

Kenwood make pretty good stuff. Their Excelon line radios aren't necessarily top of the line competition stereos, but they do a pretty darn good job for what they cost. I'd say go for it.

Kenwood stuff is good, but I've heard a LOT of reports that it just "dies" overnight... I know of two people personally that it has happened to, and neither abuse their equipment....

Why never buy sony?

From what I understood their first mp3 deck had some longevity issues, but theyre now getting back on track with their xplod stuff... Their designs did suck after they stopped Mobil ES but Ive always been a firm supporter of Sony. My MEX-5DI is awesome... Its putting out some serious sound. 2 of my friends have Kenwood heads and they sound really good but they both have no sub pre-out or cd text. My other friend with a civic INSISTS on nothing but Alpine. When he got his new head back in october, it was alpines finest and he was like "look! the face can be set at 3 different angles!" Alpine is OK imo... but i can't take their repeatedly used face design and color scheme.

edit: Thats another thing, '01 is right, ive heard stories of Kenwood stuff just *stop* working... Home stereo recievers and a portable CD player, though. nothing about head units yet.
