View Full Version : Rolling Road Day

I have been making some initial enquiries about doing a rolling road day for us Cougars. Initial feedback has been that about twenty cars would be needed to do the day. What are your thoughts?? Trophies could be organised for the winners of various categories. Could be a good day out and something a bit different. I'm thinking of around March time and possible again at the end of the year if this goes well. Second time round we could have trophies for most improved etc, etc.... Magazines are also interested in this kind of thing and it could be a good way of promoting the club to a new audience.

That's a very good idea Andy. Although my car is stock (well I'm trying to resist getting an exhaust from Longlife at the mo), I'd still be interested to see how it's performing.

Would definitely be interested :)

Sounds interesting if it was in the middle of the country, I dont fancy driving all the way to Surrey.

I would be up for this one!
Same as Blackadder mine is stock, but it would make a good day out and i would be interested in seeing what my motor is running at.
I always get the fastcar mag and they always seem up for these sort of days, and it is about time we got a proper motor(2.5v6) in the mag, instead of the 1.4lt euro jobbies that seem to be spoiling the current wave of car mags...........just a thought.

Sorry to change the thread, but i was just wondering what induction kit you have, and has it made much improvement to the running or does it just sound good.

Thanks.............Gav.

I have a Pipercross cone filter fitted and the noise is sweet but the performance increase is pretty shocking. I'm changing mine to a Weapon-R intake (Thanks to G-Catz) with a cold air box as the increase is a lot better. The problem is that the Pipercross ends up sucking in the hot air once the engine has heated up and this defeats the point of having a new filter. The cold air box has a cold air feed from the front splitter which ensures that only cold air gets put into the engine...hence more power.

Yea sounds like a good idea but you know what happens when i attend a meet it all goes T$*s up. RGS have finally found out what is wrong with the car. The Accusump has split open and is knackered so they have removed it which should solve the problem i won't bother with a new one i just want my money back, this thing is supposed to work under high pressure so you would think they would make it strong enough. I am going for an oil cooler and a baffle sump which should be enough.

Damo, glad they finally got to the bottom of it :)

Sounds like a good idea :)

Oh yeah count down to, wheels t-6 days (Provided all goes well tomorrow)

Im also getting one of the nice big Tacho's like the one the Supra has in fast and the furious....if anybody asks me why I need one.... its cus when I raced on the drag strip last year I either looked at the road or my Tacho..... guess which one got my vote! I only hit the rev limiter once mind and it was the first time i raced! not bad I plan for a sub 16 time this year

Oh my.....how I wish I could join in the fun:( Andy, the rolling road day sounds fun.

I shipped my car off yesterday. They loaded her on a huge ship in Felixstowe, on it's way back across the pond. Should take 30-40 days to get to Atlanta, Georgia. Damian, good idea to get rid of the oil thingy. Now you can have your fun!

Take care all!
Justin

Andy this cold air box is it easy to fabricate with a Welded Steel box (with a replacement K&N in it) and Flexy tubing to a plastic bell housing behind the bottom grill, or am I being silly?

What do you think?

Could work if it is done properly but you would have to make sure that the metal has some kind of heat resistant properties or it will just be a waste of time and effort. If the box heats up it will just heat the incoming air again. You could always make the box and line it with some heat proof material which shouldn't be too hard to get hold of. The other main point is to get the cold air feeded pipe in from the front grill. The piping is dead cheap but it's a nightmare to fit (according to people i've spoken to....Gareth!!) Haven't done it myself yet but I plan too when I fit the manifolds and new airbox.

Just as a point, when dyno testing the car I have to open up my cold air box because the dyno guy's fan was good only for cooling engine, radiator etc. And not quite 50-80mph of air flying up th ecold air pipe ... more like 5-10mph of cool breeze. This means with the box on your restricting air flow so its probably best to take it off for the dyno.

Just a thought?

http://www.mdneco.com/smile/greddy.gif sounds really good idea as long as its a reasonable journey for every one and the cost is again reasonable to get things organised for march tho will need planning asap people will need to arrange time off of work plan journey etc first thing should be location?

Still no word on cost and dates ?

I saw in Fast Ford that they are interested in these Rolling Road days and need a minimum of 12 cars to do a feature I think.

Still definitely up for going.

Tim.

Hi guys, sorry i haven't got back to you but due to computer problems I haven't been able to reply for a while. I am getting rough costings at the moment from a couple of places and yes you are right about the magazines. If we can get 12 then it should be game on.

I will have confirmed times, dates, costings and numbers needed on Monday.

AndyT

Right, I have spoken to a company in Norwich, Norfolk a couple of times who seem to be very clued up as to how the whole thing works. The cost will be £30 each which will allow entry for the day and a go on the rollers with readings being given out afterwards. They can also give tips on how best to improve the performance you are getting etc etc.... We can also have our pick of Sundays (within reason) in the next couple of months. I am going up to see them in a couple of weeks to discuss the matter further once we have some definate names that are keen to commit to it.
So who's in?? Names and prefered Sundays if possible.
Thanks,
Andy

Love to go, but Norwich is miles from everywhere !

Isn't there somewhere more central ? Birmingham for example.

Jason J

must say i agree with the two comments above mate it is miles and it isnt even motorway to get there its the a14 most people will use a dual carridge way it takes ages to get there from birmingham let alone anywhere further than that even on a sunday the journey takes an age
