In lite of all my recent electrical issues (battery, alt...) my amp will no longer power up. I have checked the connections, fuses, wires and nothing seems to be wrong. But the remote power on (from headunit to amp to turn on) wire is not getting any power. I put a jump from another wire on the amp to the remote wire & she powers on, do you think my headunit is causeing the problem?

I noticed this happened after my car died from causes still to be determined. Not sure if it's the Alt or battery yet.

is this a sony unit?
in any case make sure you are using the remote turn on wire, if it does not have any power check the fuse, if the fuse is good then use the auto antenna wire for the remote turn on.

Guess it would help a little if I told you the headunit:

Kenwood Z919

It's still on the original wire when it was first install a couple years ago (P. Control). There is an Ant. Control wire, maybe when I'm home this weekend I'll test for power coming out of the HU wires...

If it is on the same power wire, I would check the fusses first.

Its possible that the headunits power wire is faulty. Ive resoldered some headunit secondary power wires from heat melting the inner connections. I would open the unit up and check all the inner connections, but only if you are for sure which ones are the correct points.

I've checked the fuses on the headunit & amp and they are fine. If it was a fuse issue wouldn't the HU not work at all?

I also tried using the Ant. Cont. wire with no luck.

I had that problem once, my stereo would turn on but my amp was getting no power. Turns out my power wire from the battery to the amp shorted out  Had to get a new power wire (4 guage)

I had Sears run a line test since it broke after I had them recharge the factory battery. Everything was showing power except the HU to Amp wire.

get a multimeter and a long piece of wire. Take out your deck, unplug the wiring harness. Find the pin which is your remote wire, jam one end of the long wire in it. pull the other end of the wire to the back of the car. Now, set the multimeter on Ohms (or beep) setting (resistance). Put one lead on the wire you've put into the deck, and the other on to your remote wire. If you don't see a near zero resistance, or hear a beep (depending on your meter), then your remote wire is bad, needs to be re-run. If you DO hear a beep that doesnt mean your wire is ok. You still may have a short somewhere, so check the amp and deck fuses just to be sure. Now, if you've verified the remote wire what you'll need to do is make sure that you actually have 12V at the the deck for remote. So, disconnect the wire running to the back of the car (may need to be cut). Put the multimeter to DC Volts (sometimes shown with a V with a straight line) and, with the harness plugged in, and the deck turned on, put the red lead on the back of the deck, and the black lead to something metal (aka the bracket inside where the deck is mounted). If you're showing 12 Volts there AND you've verified the wire to the amp conducts then it is either a short in the wire, or perhaps the connector putting the 2 wires together. So, now you should reconnect the wire from the back of the deck to the back of the car (either use a crimp style connector or solder and shrink wrap it). If you still dont have a working amp then re-run the wire, but hopefully this will have helped you track down the problem.
