Hi all. As a new member today thought I would say hello. After having to fafth about for the last two years in a Mondeo(no disrespect meant) due to shall we say "marital pressure", getting the cougar has been a breath of fresh air and I can see why so many people are so keen.

I picked up the cougar two weeks ago and on delivery found that the car had a torn carpet in the boot.:( - Not a big problem I thought and as such went to my ever friendly Ford dealer to order a new one. All details were given on the model and that it had a changer in the boot and part no.F1129750 was ordered and delivered next day.

On receipt I found that the carpet was basically a rectangle with a cut out on the right for the changer. As you can imagine this didn't do at all as it left a nice big gap behind the passenger side wheeler and there was no consideration for the curves at the front end of the arches.

So we went back, they reordered and I got the same carpet again:confused:

At this point they then put in a request to Ford for clarification of the part and they came back to confirm that this was now the only carpet stocked for the model. As the car was no longer in production they were reducing the held items and as such I'm stuck with a carpet that wouldn't fit any Cougar properly!!!

Has anyone else had this situation or know of an answer?

Apart from this, the cars great and I cant wait for an opportunity to go out for a 'proper' drive

All the best

That sucks, have you rung round the salvage yards, maybe they will have what you need. Good Luck :)

Salvage yards don't seem to hold anything for the Cougar probably 'cause it was never a big seller in the first place.

When I first got mine I rung around all of the specialist Ford breakers to try and find a leather interior to replace my cloth but they all said that they had never had a Cougar in to strip of parts.

I don't know if anyone else has had any luck sourcing parts in this way.

You could always try an American dealer such as FORD PARTS ONLINE (http://www.fordpartsonline.com/) the cd changer is on the same side in the American Cougar so the carpet would be the same.

That's bloody expensive for what it is.

The carpet is only made up of a square of hardboard with some shaped material each side.
You could get the square of board for a couple of quid and then cut the material to shape, you can stick the 2 sheets at the edge with special adhesive.

I reckon you could do this in about an hour and cost no more than £15

DIY modding at its most basic, you could even use thicker board and higher quality material to improve over the origonal.
Actually I might even do one myself !!

I'll let you all know the result

Thanks for your responses. If you think the US price is high, Ford in the UK want £109.37 inc vat:disgust:

I have however now moved on as the advantage I have is my Father-in-Law is a retired International Parts Manager for Ford and he's in the process of bashing heads together.

I'll get back with any info he can get out of his contacts on parts generally.

All the best

Richard
