hey ppl........doing some tests and i want to know what you honestly think. no BS.......just the truth on what you think these need or which particular version you like. i'm currently modeling a cigar, ash tray, decanter, and maybe a snifter. but give me your opinions on what i have so far...........more coming soon.

all modeled and rendered in Softimage XSI 2.0.1 with metal ray, final gathering, caustics, global illumination, and dithering.........

original glass.....right out of XSI (http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid45/p84b31af6b74e87398f61d20af78430a4/fcd2a05d.jpg)

with a little photoshop......very little
version A (http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid45/p76eecef1f996ab5f4065c1639c55ed89/fcd2a05f.jpg)
version B (http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid45/p3be4d6c138f07756c5d470961bc123b1/fcd2a063.jpg)

thanks

actually, i'm still trying to make it look like bourbon.......it's not quite golden enough. i also totally used a real pic of bourbon that i took, lol. it just got darker for some reason:shrug:

still workin on it.......

Version B does look better because you have the caustics effect applied. But I think you'd be able to see the burbon through the glass on the side facing you, that and their should be a golden tint cast onto the table from the light passing through the burbon.

To give it a little more touch of realism, apply a light gel to one of your lights with the mask of some Venican Blinds. It'll give the whole thing more feeling I think check out 2 images from my work here (http://www.skolenimation.com/computer/04.jpg) & here. (http://www.skolenimation.com/computer/16.jpg)

Otherwise it's looking good.

thanks john......i had the color hitting the wall and now it's gone. i'm currently playing with the glass shader to get some of the frost out of it so you can see the bourbon. i got the color in this pic----> you can see it on the floor and a little on the wall...... (http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid35/p595fb6fe55b272a6f0443678c7502055/fd2990bf.jpg) but i got the color of this ball to bleed without caustics....cause it's not transparent. that's just global illumination.

are your pics done in MAX? they look better than my MAX reel, lol.....my 1st demo reel sucked big time:puke:

the first one (A) have much better spacing and dynamics. The second one (B) the letters are too close to the cup. the lettering itself it a nice touch and suits your profession well. the color looks nice in B.

well......everyone has an opinion on the font that i just threw in there as my watermark/sig....forget the "copy".....i wanted to know about the glass itself, lol. the actual text will probably not be there or look much different. i'm frustrated with the glass shader itself because now it won't show the bourbon in the glass from where the camera is. the scene might have to be rebuilt:mad:....i think i did too much experimenting, lol.

HA!.........i found the right settings. the reflection/refraction/max photon depth settings weren't high enough to show anything. now all i have to do is balance that setting with the number of emitted caustics photons and the light intensity and will be done. learning anything? lol, gonna take forever to render. gotta bump up the accuracy on everything. 3-4 hours min......hopefully it will but up soon so you guys and girls can critique my progress:biggrin:
