condensation in headlights

I seem to remember somebody asking about this issue a while ago. Anyway here is Fords official answer:-

Subject: Condensation forming on the inside of the plastic headlamp lens

Summary

It is normal for a small amount of condensation to form on the inside of the plastic headlamp lens; when the headlamp is switched on, this condensation should disappear. If this is not the case, the headlamp must be removed and revised vent hoses (see Parts Required) should be installed in order to improve ventilation.

Alternatively, if the moisture ingress is caused by damaged headlamp components, then a new headlamp should be installed.

Production Action

Modified vent hoses have been installed in production since 24.05.99 (build code XL).

Service Instructions

See Summary.

1. Remove the headlamp according to Operation Number 32 115 0 (Workshop Manual/TIS-CD).

µ 2. Pull off the vent hoses and discard them.


Note:
Do NOT apply the quick drying adhesive to the vent hose because this may block the opening of the hose.

3. Coat the mountings of the vent hoses on the headlamp housing with quick drying adhesive (see Parts Required).


Note:
The angled end of the vent hoses must point downwards.

µ 4. Push the vent hoses (see Parts Required) into the mountings on the headlamp.

5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for the other headlamp.

6. Install the headlamp according to Operation Number 32 115 0 (Workshop Manual/TIS-CD).

Well i don't believe a word of that as my Cougar was built well after 23/05/99 and my headlights still mist up

:banghead:I took mine apart for painting and they've steamed up ever since. Despite the fact I've re-sealed them 3x now!!! Bazza wots this vent hose thingy, I haven't seen one of them?:confused:

Attached is a diagram of the headlight with the vents attached. The part number of the vent is in the original post.

I hope it fixes your problem.

I have seen this problem also recently it always seams to occur in the lower corner of the headlight and only disappears on my when the car has been in the garage for a few hours.

My Ford dealer incedently told me it was normal

If any one could help me obtain also a copy of the technical information cd then please could you let me know where i can purchase?

:disgust:I've been to Fords and they want £5 each for the pipes and you need 4. Does anyone know if they do the job? £20 + VAT seems rather a lot for a few bits of plastic!

I can do a copy of the CD and send it to you but I don't want to end up sending 2000 cd's out to all members otherwise it is available on Ebay where to price can range from £3 to £30 depending on whose desperate enough for it.

:biggrin:Good call my friend. I thought of drilling a couple of holes in the plastic cover that allows you to change bulbs. Anyone see a problem with that??
