drilling?
I have a dual catback exhaust system on.
got it installed for $50 by a local speed shop.
I don't think there was any drilling required.
are you talking about doing true duals? (I'm not quite sure the exact procedure that's involved with this process).

IIRC some late model Cougars didn't have the second hole for the hanger on the other side of the car (IIRC Europe Cougars have the exhaust on the right side). No big deal, just measure the position of the hole on your left side (the hole for the hanger that holds the tip of the exhaust) to give you a basic idea where it goes and how big a hole to drill (that DID NOT sound good  ), then put the duals together on the car and mark where you need to drill, drill away and voila.
By the way, you might have the hole already there, just look under the rear bumper on the right side. If it's there, it's just putting it up, no drilling needed. Any dual exhaust made for the Coug will fit no problem.

No drilling guys! If you look at the exhuast hangers on the 2001s and 2002s... on the drivers side, look where the tube that the exhuast hanger attaches too. Then, check out the passenger side... there should be a hole at the same point that the tube was on the drivers side. I bought a 1 foot stainless steel threaded rod from Home Depot, 2 washers and 2 locknuts. Cut the threaded rod in half and made my own exhaust hangers for a couple bucks. I should of put lock-tite on it the threads - but oh well. It's still holding fine though.

I thought what you had to do was weld on a hook, not drill anything out but ive got a 99 so i dunno

Just go to auto zone and buy a universal exhaust hanger. I just popped it on to the 3" post that was across from left exhaust hanger.
Easy.
