I am currently the winning bidder for a car on eBay that is located in PORT JEFFERSON, NY (Amityville). If I win, I was thinking instead of driving up, I could purchase a one way plane/train ticket. What I need is for someone to pick me up at the air port/train station. I would rather do this and surprise my wife than ask her or my in-laws to drive me up and follow me back. Please don't respond if you are not serious. The auction ends in about 5 hours and I will have more details then ... this should be happening sometime late this week (Friday) or early next week (Monday) if it does happen. Who is interested?

Is the car in Amityville or Port Jeff? There's a big difference! Port Jeff is way out on the Island. Or are you flying into Farmingdale Airport (which is next to Amityville), LaGuardia or JFK?

Car in in Amityville ... sorry, I know very little about the geographics of NY other than the finger lakes region. What would be my best option ... Amtrak will only get me to Penn Station in NYC ... that will cost me $72. I haven't checked flights yet. What are the local airports?

PM SENT!

Well, you could take Amtrak to Penn Station, then get on the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and take the train out to Amityville, visit the LIRR website (http://www.lirr.org/lirr/index.html) for schedules and locations. One of us could pick you up from there...I don't know what day you're planning on coming in, and I'm horrible with directions so I don't know if you want me! But, let me know if it comes down to it and I'll pick you up from the train station.
Also, you could fly into Republic Airport in Farmingdale (which is the next town over from Amityville), LaGuardia in Queens or JFK in Queens. But JFK is a pain in the ass to go to because they're doing a lot of construction right now.

Well, airfares are all over the place Monday-Thursday ($199+) and United is only $70 Friday-Sunday to LaGuardia, but that is just the plane fair ... I'm sure after taxes and fees, it will be well over $100. Looks like Amtrak to Penn Station ($72) and then take the LIRR to Amityville ($8.50 max). I might not need anyone's help as the seller may be able to pick me up from the station, but I won't know that until I win the auction. Either way, I would like to catch a bite to eat with the gang while I am out there. Perhaps we could have a group meet at lunch time at the Amityville train station :) if the seller can't pick me up, then someone can drop me off at the dealership?

I contacted the seller day-before-yesterday around 4:00PM, but considering it was New Years Eve, He did not answer. I left a message and expect a return call tomorrow. I will know more then. I think that everything will go down quickly since I don't want to pay to have to stay the night as that will only add to the cost of this purchase. I have timed everything and If I leave Washington on Amtrak at 7:05AM, I will be in Penn Station at 10:15AM. This will put me in Amityville on the LIRR before 12:00PM. Considering that I am driving back home in my new car, I will need to get going ASAP to avoid total grid lock in Manhattan on my way off Long Island. At most, I will need someone to pick me up from the train station and drive me to the seller's location. A detailed map of how I should get back to the Jersey Turnpike would be much appreciated and can be paid for in echange for me buying this person lunch. I will keep everyone updated ;)
No need to go into manhattan.
- Verazanno Bridge toll is 7 dollars in cash.
this map shows you how to go from amityville to the NJ Turnpike: Map (http://maps.yahoo.com/py/ddResults.py?Pyt=Tmap&tarname=&tardesc=&osd=&newname=&newdesc=&dsd=&newHash=&newTHash=&newErr=&newTErr=&newFL=Use+Address+Below&newaddr=&newcsz=amityville&newcountry=us&newTFL=Use+Address+Below&newtaddr=&newtcsz=edison%2C+NJ&newtcountry=us&Submit=Get+Directions)
edit:
you'll endup doing something like this:
- Southern State Pkway towards NY.
- That will put you in Queens then Brooklyn (all the same island)
- Take the Verazanno Bridge into Staten Island.
- Keep going and take the Goethals Bridge. (its a tight bridge)
- AS SOON as you come off the Goethal's Bridge ramp.. you'll see 2 HUGE signs for the NJ turnpike.
- then enjoy the minimum 4 hr drive down to VA. (i did it in 3 and half going at wee hours. took me 8.5 hrs to get back during the day)

Carlos, you summed it up perfectly. I never go thru the city, I always take either the Goetholls or the Outerbridge Crossing to get to NJ. Manhattan is just an excuse to get stuck in traffic. We can go over the plans more clearly over lunch after we pick you up from the train station. Either way, Friday or monday are good to me since I work at 5pm friday, and off on monday. Get back to us when you hear from the dealer on you new contour!

Alright ... just got off the phone with the seller and they told me that they are 5 minutes from the station and are unsure if they would be able to pick me up based on time/availability of workers being there. I anticipate being in Amityville around 12:30-1:00PM so whoever wants to meet me and give me a ride down the road, I would be eternally greatful and you will have a full belly of your favorite Amityville restuerant ;) I will need to be to the sellers no later than 2:00PM. So, who wants to pick me up at the LIRR station in Amityville? I got the day off work tomorrow (01/03/2003) and will be there without question ;)
