i just got a turbo for my vct and was wondering what all i would have to do internally to the engine like the rods, and if the vct's cam stuff would effect this. also where could i get the stuff i need.

What kind of turbo? A kit or something you're going to put together yourself?

this is a good rule of thumb. 2x the hp is where parts begin to fail... our tranny will fail at 250hp. BUT running 10psi youll be fine with stock parts... if you want higher boost youll have to lower compression in the cylinders. But rods are pretty ok to run mostly... but must be replaced under high boost.

once you get the turbo put together, list everything on here, like where you got the stuff, because I would love to turbo my cougar.

How much do you know about turbo's in general?
If it's not a lot you might want to check out these sites.
http://www.dune-buggy.com/turbo/index.htm
It's mainly about VW's but it's a great site with general info and a lot of links.
This link is the most important one for a do-it-yourself turbo:
http://sdsefi.com/techheader.htm
After you've checked out those look at this one.
http://www.axs4u.net/home/louiem
It has info on my custom turbo setup on my Zetec Cougar.
It doesn't really affect the VCT. Internally I'm betting the engine will hold up to 200whp at least. That's what I'm shooting for. The main problem is fuel & timing control. What year is your Cougar? With my returnless fuel system I need a custom chip to run more than 6 psi safely.
Good Luck

Hi guys,
Glad to find all you other proud Zetec owners, over here in the UK I'm somewhat in the minority. How popular is the Zetec over there compared to the Duratec ?
Anyway got to say a huge thanks to AL  for the link to Demon Dynamics who are based over here, I'd never heard of them before but now I have I've e-mailed them to find out what they can offer. As soon as they get back to me I'll let ya all know what there responce was.
Laters,
Stu.

It's different in different areas.....i'm down in the mid east in the U.S......and i never see cougars....never.....in fact i've never seen a zetec around here period.....i see duratecs not very often
on the other hand.....everytime i go back up north, i see all kindsa cougars......i was once surrounded by 3 cougars all parked around me at a shopping center.....that doesn't happen where i live.....
i think it's pretty much the same everywhere...the whole import and domestic scene....

I see cougars every day... I live in a fairly big city though, and there are several mercury dealerships. Raced an I4 yesterday and ripped him a new one...
