Well i recvently got a new alpine 6 disc mp3 changer hooked it up to my Alpine head unit via AI-net. And now i have static. Its high frequency and only audible when the in unit EQ treble is turned up it gets louder up to volume 25 but then will get quiter if volume is turned up 25-35. I usually listen at anywhere from 15-20. I have unhooked the ai cable from the head unit and the static didn't go away therfore i believe it to be in my headunit (correct???) Its only on the changer source and nothing else. Can anyone help give me some ideas. THanks.

Before you assume that it is the head unit, check all of your wiring to make sure it is tight, and not touching anything else. Sounds like ground static to me....

But it only shows up with the changer source selected (not tuner or disc) I disconnected the only cable that is discrete to the changer (ai-net cable) (disconnected from back of head unit). The static was still there.

Thanks though is there something else I could check. I used contact cleaner on all the connections and re routed all my cables.

Then it's possible that the head unit has a fault in it... if it's not the wiring, and only happens at certain times, but not at others, then I would have to say it's the head unit :(

Now that's not very nice  I agree, though, I've had Pioneer forever, and if I ever had a problem, they replaced my head unit. Only happened once when the tuner module burned out on my old head unit -- send it back, and within a week I had the new unit!

No way I'd stray from Alpine I've had Alipine for 7 years and never had a problem. The only problem is now is I don't have a receipt to the head unti but its less then a year old plus I bought it in Utah I live in Kentucky. Does anybody know anyway except a deck swap I could confirm its the head unit????

Thanks

Patrick
