View Full Version : Cigarette lighter
Whats up guys. i am a new member but i think this is where i should put this question. I have a 2001 atx cougar. For a little under a year my cigarette lighter hasnt worked. i want to put a ps2 in with the 2 tvs i am about to get but i need my cigarette lighter to use an fm modulator(i think that is what it is called). does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be?
and by the way i have already done a search on it and found nothing.

You should start with the obvious first.....check the fuse, check the wire connections to the lighter with a multimeter....then work your way down the circuit until you find the problem.
The cigarette lighter circuit should be direct to Battery (in other words, you should be getting 12 volts between the positive and ground. If you do have the voltage...then the lighter element (the part you pop in) may be no good.
I hope that helps.
Where is the fuse box. i am at work right now so i have access to new fuses and a multimeter so if you could tell me as soon as possible i can get it done. thanks.

There are two fuse boxes, one is in the engine compartment (next to the Battery) and the other is located under the driver's side instrument panel.
The cigarette lighter fuse is in the one under the instrument panel. It's held under the instrument panel with retaining clips, if you pop it out of the clips....the fuse box will drop down where you'll have better access. There should be a label on the side of the fuse box which identifies the circuit and the amps. The cigarette lighter fuse is #27 and should be a 15 amp fuse.
I just went to advanced and picked up some 15 amp fuses and switched it out and that was the problem. Thanks for the help Afterhours
