Will this increase the sound of my exhaust, also, is it just as easy tot have it cut off?

CougarDemon just did it and said it sounds louder/better. Then again, he also took all the sound proof stuff off the car. One thing's for sure, the thing pulls...custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

i've said it before, and i'll say it again "DO IT!!!!". if you already have an intake and exhaust you'll REALLY notice a difference. around the 3000 rpm range i have noticed the most significant change, it's louder than hell. since gutting them will take away more backpressure you'll actually kinda 'drag' off the start for a sec, but it's still worth it.

oh, and be sure to set aside an entire day to do this mod as you'll more than likely end up having some other sort of problem (i know this from experience).

I'm very PRO on this mod... uRiDiAN and PuckPuck gutted mine October 2001 and I could tell a signifigant increase in HP.. easily 10-15 ponies... uRiDiAN also ported and polished some lip as well... The only costs incurred at supplies to build MILS if your car needs it... definately sounds cooler too...

10-15????!!! i was thinking more along the line of about 5 or so. i noticed just a slight increase. at 10-15 you'd definately be able to tell a huge difference.

my point exactly... i think crispy's a little excited today  she's definitely over reacting... i've heard they have gained 7hp before... but msds i've seen dynoed from 10 to 13 and that has to give more power.

it's def. a mod worth doing though... unless your going Turbo like me... or hopefully like me :)

I stand by an easily 10HP.... like I said.. uRiDiAN ported and polished some constrictive lip after it was gutted too... He said he had wished he did that to his own prior to mine.. I want to dyno my car and another 99 ATX with comparable mods sometime.. as a 99 ATX comparable with Headers...

The greatest sound in the world was when Pierre told me to start the car straight off the headers so any left over gunk would be blown out before it was all reassembled... For those 30 seconds I loved my car and thought it was a stock car.......

i didn't exhuat or a main cat on my cougar for a while ;) i drove it around, it was amazingly loud haha. HOWEVER! dont'e ver gut your main cat, you loose major tq and you have no 1st gear at all.. you will loose races with turtles haha

and the constructive lip may give you the extra 3hp to get 10 .... i don't know.... guess you need to dyno with a friend who has your mods and just gutted precats to find out :)

Crispy, can you provide us with any more info on this constructive lip? I haven't gutted my precats yet, but possibly soon.

I'll grab uRiDiAN the next time he is online and ask him to fill everyone in... all I know is that it was alot of porting on the piece...

I was planning on offering this as a service at LFP ... $150 + $350 core (refundable when I get the cores). I will gut the pre-cats, port the exhaust and fill in the "probing" hole all nice and neat ;)

Whan you pull off your manifold, look inside the holes, right where it attached to the head. There is a lip, or a ridge that runs the entire circumference of the port. I have to assume it is only there to catch carbon and restrict the exhaust flow even more. Anyway, it's pretty easy to get rid of with a Dremel and a little patience.

Just another reason to actually remove the manifolds when you eliminate the precats.

i've said it before and I will say it again: If you don't have this mod done ... what are you waiting for??

still the best HP/$ mod out there and your are guranteed to still pass emmisions testing anywhere!! even in California!! and we all know how strict they are

and $150 seems kind of steep to me.. plus shipping? This mod requires only about a 4 to 6 hour investment in your own time to do it

(nevermind not having to remove the rear bank... which can be a large pain on the ATX)
