already asked crispy bout this...she said maybe the dreaded fuel pump is the cause......but i have an 02....and don't even have 13K on it yet.....so could that be? anyways...here's my deal.....

not sure this has anything to do with it...but i just installed some aftermarket gauges......before this...i always noticed the rate at which my led gas milage would drop...starts at 390 miles on a full tank...and drops correctly as my gas burns up.........now.....fill the tank up... starts at 390 on a full tank.....and every minute or 2...i lose a mile......390...389...388..387...386...385...etc etc.... what in the world would make the reading drop so quicky like that?? Thanks as always guys......

That's completely normal... your ECU is beginning to learn how you drive, and it is adjusting the total trip time accordingly. If you want to default the counter back to 390 miles, just disconnect the battery for a few minutes in order to reset the ECU, but be aware that the readings that it will give after 20 fill-ups (even though it is lower) will be more accurate than a fresh default value.

Driving style makes a huge difference, too. If you bring it up to 4k RPMs every shift, the ECU is going to think that more fuel is being burned (which is true) than if you accelerated to 3k everytime.

I doubt that your fuel pump has anything to do with the ECU readings.

hmm great...thanks....that makes sense now that's presented to me....is this the case even if i never disconnected my battery when i installed the gauges?? i disconnected the wiring harness to the gauges when i installed them.....but...battery wise...i never lifted my hood once...:cover:

When I first bought my car (new), the trip total was 390, and since then it has reduced itself to 290 per tank. I pulled the battery to install my new Optima last week, and it reset the trip total to 390 again. It does go down faster, mainly because the computer realizes that it really is only getting about 290 miles to the tank, but the reset causes the computer to start calculating again, instead of using the stored value.

ohhh ok...i'm startin to get it now...lol.... :stupid: so basically...my car is maturing...and starting to figure out how much it gets to a tank then.... and it was sorta coincidental that it started doing this when my guages went in...?.....well...at any rate ...thanks a bunch man....makes a ton more sense now...

I've never trusted those digital readouts, I go by the needles instead. Right now whenever I fill up it reads about 260.
