Not sure if any of you remember but a while ago (Just after fitting my induction kit) I had an issue with my car performing a little trick called Moosing. For those of you who are unsure of the term, Its basically when you turn your car on and its cold you get a REALLY loud resonating noise come from the Idle Air Control Valve. After a couple of minutes when your car warms up things go back to normal.

After nearly three months ford have finally found me a part which fixes this problem, and for once ford have come up trumps with this one, the part is basically an Idle air pipe..... with a twist! Its about three times as long as the stock part!, have a look at the attached picture this thing looks a bit bizarre as it wraps around the main air pipe.

Ive attached two pictures, the first is how it was before where there are three pipes the thickest grey pipe is the air feed for the idle air control valve (ACF3909.JPG). The second picture shows this pipe replaced with a snake! (Moosepipe.jpg)

But hey it works a treat!

Excellent info!

So basically, Ford have replaced the pipe with a longer one that snakes around a bit to stop the air resonating?

My moosing started a few weeks back but it's not always there, it's very intermittent.

What I found was that the colder the engine the more it happerened. one time a week or so back the temp when the temp was 0-2c the car started moosed so I stopped the car, it wouldnt start after that for about 5mins of trying i got it running thats the worst it got to but that was cold!!

Ok I have spoken to Ford and the part is in actual fact a MkII Escort Heater Hose! nothing special about it the part number is 6117937. They said if you cant get the part as they are quite rare a similar hose of similar length will work just fine. If you need me to measure mine... just let me know

There is also a How-To on FastCougar.com (http://www.fastcougar.com/how_to/index.html) with pictures that tells you how to fix it with just a .32 cent copper cap from a home improvements/hardware store.

I had the same problem with my KKM intake, after putting this in problem solved. And if you have an ATX you'll get crisper shifts.

Look for the "Throttle-Hang Fix".

I thought throttle hang and moosing were 2 different problems?

They are both fixed by restricting air flow

update!

I went to Pep boys and just got 3 feet of heater hose and put it on last night, it's to warm to crank it up today to tell, but its supposed to be cold tomorrow morning and i'll test it then. I hope it works.. I'll report back! ;)

I took my moosing Cougar to the dealer last week with a printout of this thread. They checked it out with Ford Technical and found a proper modified part for this problem. So far it seems to have done the trick.

It looks the same as the normal hose except it has a "T" junction near to where it fits to the IAC Valve. From the "T" junction there's a solid plastic pipe which runs under the main air intake tube and ends next to the battery. It's sealed shut at the end. This additional pipe must restrict the air flow just like all the other answers in this thread.
The part number is 1025296 and has a description of 'HOSE-AIR' (according the packaging and receipt). It costs £25.06 + VAT and includes part of the main intake tube. If you want to see some pictures let me know.

BTW My Cat has stock air intake/filter.

In a word...No !
But I never had a throttle hang problem to start with.

Sorry

Just had the moose noosed.:)

Pleasant surprise from Ford dealer, £26.73 fitted including VAT !!

Of general interest apparently the fitting designed for the Cougar has had reoccurring 'moosing' problems.
The hose best fitted is the one designed for the Mondeo 2.5. Part number 1025296 (as advised by GCatz originally), air intake hose

Glad I came across this thread because I didn't really understand what 'moosing' was!

About a week after buying my cougar (17/04/03) I noticed a loud whining noise from the engine area when the car was cold (1st thing in the morning) and after a while the noise would go..... It seemed the noise was from the steering.
As the car is still under warranty I asked the local Ford garage to check it out.
After checking the car they found that the Power Steering Pump was noisy and there was a 'Moosing' noise from the engine which would require new parts... they said both faults would be fixed under warranty... the noise has now gone!!
Also when they ran a health check when the car was in for repair they found a nail embedded in one of the new rear tyres!....which was removed and no leak occurred!!!....I guess it was my lucky day for a change!!!

Just out of curiosity - What's the throttle hang issue?
