I know it can't be a ram air scoop, but If I were to cut a whole in my hood, would 1) Air flow into the engine bay, and 2) would it have any effect on performance/cooling?

No probably not... Have you looked at how small the hole in that hoodscoop actually is? Very small...

if you cut the hood out under the area the scoop covers it will be beneifical. It will help cool the UIM which should reduce intake charge temps = more power

however I doubt the increase would be much nor has anyone ever done it. props to you though, it would be original

Don't forget about all that water that will be introduced into your engine bay on rainy days. Yes it can be done. Is it worth all the effort? Probably not.

Water = more engine problems

With the angle that the scoop is on and with a grill on it, I doubt water would be too much of a problem. Hell, maybe it would clean out my injen filter ;)

Even if the air flow wouldn't be significant enough to do much good, it would be cool if it did some good. Plus, saying I have a non-functional hood scoop is kind of lame. :(

raj patel cut his out and made a plate or something to cover the hole during rain.

he said he did it "so he could hear his intake better"
