View Full Version : XM Radio Questions
I have a Pioneer GEX-FM903XM XM receiver with tuner on the way. I currently have a Sony CD head unit, so for now I will be using an FM Modulator. Question I have is when I decide on getting a Pioneer CD head unit can I still use the Pioneer GEX-FM903XM? Or do I need to get the GEX-FM900XM? Do our stock cd changers have the IP-Bus line? I have sold my cd changer and still have the wire in the trunk and it looks like it would fit into the XM receiver to my factory unit. I will put my factory tape deck back in if it will work for now, until I get myself a Pioneer CD head unit. I'm kind of getting a little worried because of all the bad things I heard about FM modulators. I would be happy with the modulator if it is radio quality. So I will see if it is first before I buy an XM ready head unit. I have the on glass antenna too, will that make it sound better than the roof antenna?
Thanks!

If you get any higher end Pioneer deck, you only need the receiver, not the display as well. Our stockies don't have the IP bus. I have the 6400P, and I just got the XM receiver, using the AUX input and IPbus on the back to control it... works great!
Seeing that I got the Pioneer GEX-FM903XM which has the tuner, can I still just get a XM ready Pioneer head unit and not use the tuner it came with? Or do I need the GEX-FM900XM. The only difference seems to be the receiver I have comes with a tuner plug and the other is for XM ready head units.

I don't know anything about the Pioneer units. I have Apline. However I would forget about getting a CD changer. I doubt you'd ever use it. I love my XM so much it's permently on :). I have had it since day one and can count on one hand how many times I have used the cd player. I also never listen to local radio either.
What's wrong with FM modulators?? I have a cd changer that was FM modulator and it worked great.

Well I guess nothing is wrong with an FM modulator. I have a decent Sony cd head unit and some good speakers so I assume the fm mod is fine for now until I get around in buying a Pioneer head unit and connecting them with an IP-Bus. My only worry was that the fm modulator sounds like AM radio with all that is being said about them. BTW I said I sold my cd changer, I never used it, I'm not looking to get one.
Got a Pioneer CD head unit to replace my own so I don't need the fm modulator. Direct connect all the way. Thanks for the replies!
