Just alst nite I went to Best Buy with my brother to get a headunit like mine. We are going to remote mount the face and the salesman said there is no way to do this to any of the units. He argued with my for like 15 minutes on how its imposssible to do this and have it all work properly. And he said it would be better tried by a professional than by just anyone "playing with the wires"....Damn I just got pissed off at the so called expert and brought my car by the install bay and showed the guy what the hell I was talking about...and to prove him wrong. He was a lil shocked that I did this...wondering why and how. I asked him how many years he had been installing, "3 or so years" he said....Expert.....ok...yeah...Then I asked him if he likes his job...he said "yeah, pays well." I asked if he liked it and thats his response..Why be into car audio and not like it for what it is....Damn I guess that blue shirt gives you the right to know everything and not how to use your imagination. He was certified and Im not, so does that mean I dont know anything about car audio...Hell I guess not, I just "play with the wires" and see what happends. Damn my 7 years of installing out of my garage just doesnt compare to a MECP cert. and a blue shirt. This is why Im never working for a chain of stores than employs those who like to be Experts in the knowledge of car audio. Then after all his b.s, he wanted to know what kind of subs I got running. I opened my trunk. Now he said it looks like a home built system...Yeah and whats the difference? It wasnt a prefab box with 500$ subs? No 1000 watt amp? Hell no, 2 12" IMPP's on a 250 watt Clarion Power Series amp in a never before seen bandpass box. So since its never been seen it will not work. My brother has the other box with the Polk/MOMO subs and Phoenix gold amp, and its not any different in looks but sure does sound better, but the box is the key on this setup. SO the expert thinks the box looks like crap...Well after I turned it up it then did it make him feel like an ass when it shook the hell out of the install bay. The polk box setup hits 139.5 db . mY **** box hasnt been metered, but it does hit hard-Damn If only I had the other one.
But all in all, Dont listen to the blue shirt guy when he says thats its impossible to do something, never anything impossible with car audio!

Pure assholes they are: they thing they know it all and then they try it prove it to the world
I ran in to a similar experience but with the CC (Circuit City) I was looking for the power wire the only one they sell is Monster cable, which is over priced schoshe to begin with. Anyway there were two spools one was like 2 gauge and the other one was 4 gauge. the price was on top of it for a 1/0 gauge with like the 4 something a foot but any way I asked to see the 1/0 gauge he stated there it is, I asked where that is a 2 gauge wire
He states that the 2 gauge and the 1/0 is the same cable, I simply looked at him and asked in my own little way, Says who the 1/0 cable is thicker got more strands and you are on crack.
with that I took him to the front desk and asked to see the manager
He came out was polite and all
I simply asked him is there a difference between a 2 gauge and a 1/0 gauge power cable, He basically quested me stating that there are more strings in a 1/0 gauge power wire and it is thicker. I told him what happened and if a so called person does not know the difference he should not be near the stuff to begin with.
Just wanted to share that with you.

Please don't make an assumption about everyone based off of one experience. It's true that there are some real jackasses at some Best Buys, Circuit Cities, Hifi Buys, and Grandpa Jim's audio shop down the street. But is that true for every employee at every shop? Hell no. The guy you ran into was obviously an idiot, and obviously had never done anything in car audio past installing radios, amps, and alarms. But that doesn't mean that BB/CC installers in general are idiots. I've known a LOT of installers for BB AND CC that could simply amaze you with their knowledge and abilities. In fact, I know one in particular that built a system that set the dB record a few years ago. Ever heard of The Beast? Well this guy built the system it had a while back. On the other hand, I've also known quite a few people that were just complete dumbasses and didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. And also, just to let you know, the salespeople at those places don't usually know a lot about installing stuff. That's why they're salespeople and not installers.

Chineesboi604-Hey thanks, is the natural remedy!
catman-The scary part was that the guy was an installer as well as salesman, usually they either stay in or out of the bay, but this guy sought me out for some b.s'n. But there are plenty of smart installers and just a few to really screw things up which give a bad impression on the whole team.
blast- Ive had the same problem numerous times, last time I bought 4awg power wire , I had gotten a few extra feet to make into ground, but the salesman said I needed to buy the brown wire so I wouldnt confuse the power and ground wires....needless to say the ground is the shortest anyways..and I guess the brown color makes a better connection...yeah..thats it!:banghead:
Oh and I took some recent pictures of my **** box, dont mind the wires, they are going to be cleaned up sooner or later.

Yeah some of the guys at those kinda places are dicks, but then again some are ok.......If I come across one of those guys, I just basically prove him wrong, and don't say no more!

Lukydogg - what is wrong with your picture. I mean it the box looks good and finished, and the wiring well you know how that goes :) today I want the amp to be here tomorrow i want it there. It is not like you are getting for the finals, hell you got almost whole year to finish that up right?
I have started mine, and let me tell you mine is even worst as far as wiring goes.

Well this car wasnt my prime example of sound system buildin, my moms old car was going to be a show stopper -88 300zx with 1000+ watts to play with..... untill it got smashed. I do have a portfolio going on what ive done and I actually found most of the older systems still around here, just havnt put the pictures in order and all that. The big box in my trunk is probably the simplest and biggest box ive ever had to mess around with, usually the enclosures I build are permanent, but this one can be removed(not easily though). But I must say the 2 boxes like the one in the trunk suprise anyone who gets to feel their eyes vibrating..and only on minimal power output...I dare to hit it up to higher volume for it might bust something(like ear drums)
