Was cruisin down 146 with a couple other members when I noticed blue headlights 2 cars back. I was in the middle, had a Coug in front and one behind me. They both went to the right lane (2-lanes) so the guy with the blue lights got behind me. I didnt know what it was but he was right on my @ss. So I downed to 3rd and punched it into 4th. Put 3-4 cars between us and gave him the hazards :) . He apparently never let off and caught up behind me, but I had slowed down for traffic to about 70mph. Traffic cleared both lanes and again this guy was on my @ss. So I said alright, lets see what he's got. Got on the right lane and the guy got on it. I let his front get to my door and then I nailed it. Toped out 4th and pushed him back 2-3 cars, gave him the hazards again (lol). My exit came up so I slowed down and thats when they went by. 1st car was a Honda, 2nd car was a Honda, 3rd was a Neon and I think there was a 4th, but I didnt get to see it (you could tell they were all together). Neither one of the other cars ever got close by what I could see. I think blue light boy was the quickest of the bunch.

Nice road tale. I would love to embarrass a large group of Honda owners like that. The Neons on the other hand aren't really bragged about like Honda and Acura. The new turbo charged ones will be. I can't wait to get a hold of one of them and blow it off the street. Good killssss!

Agreed, those new neons are badass, dodge quotes the HP at 215, but sport compact car listed wheel HP at about 232, ouch.

Don't laugh the new Neons will do the quarter mile in just over 14 seconds and with a boost controller and some better tires I'm sure hitting high 13 second quarter miles would be no problem. I have a feeling many Cougar owners are going to get a big surprise when a Neon blows us away. Then don't forget the PT Cruiser is getting the same engine as the Neon so we will get surprised by those as well. I just hope Ford looks at what Mopar is doing with it's performance parts division and follows in their footsteps (buying performance upgrades and having the dealership install them without any effects to your warranty, now that is nice). If Ford doesn't follow Mopar's que I know I will be looking at Mopar cars in the future when I need to get the 4 door family car that I still want to be able to modify and have fun with.

Also i thought that the hp numbers were more like 205...not 215...or 232@the wheels...where do these variances come from?? bad info??

I got all my numbers from SCC (sport compact car) which I doubt would post bugus HP numbers just to F**k with people, according to the source dodge puts the power of the RT/PT crusier engine at 215 crank HP. According to SCC they measured WHEEL HP in the 220 level. Thats a huge understatement, if the numbers are acurate it would put actual crank power somewhere around the 250Hp mark, give or take a few. Could be dodge is just trying to help out us kids with insurance costs.

I could see the Neon having over 200 horse, if the body was about 5000 lbs :biggrin: I had to drive a friend home from the bar in her Neon, and there's no way that thing had 200 horse... It was like driving a riding lawn mower, just without the Honda labels. And yes, it was the sports package and it's 0-60 was about 2 minutes... I think her's is a 98 or 99, don't really care to much to look into it

First I want to apologize to Furious for the high-jacking of this thread, which was a nice kill(s).
Second, the neon in question is the new SRT-10 model with the Turbo, the same engine as the PT turbo.
Just thought clarification was needed. Thanks.

haha no problem Jake. Yeah, Sas, they're talking about the '03 Neon SRT-4 (Turbocharged) coming out rated at IIRC 215HP/245TQ.
All other Neons have the strongest 150HP, even the R/T, except for a few (dont know how many, could be only 1) ACR's out there which IIRC were Supercharged?
Either way, the real speed of this car comes not only from the power, but from the weight. They average a mere ~2500lbs.

They say the SRT-4 is second only to the Viper, as far as performance goes, in the entire Chrysler stable.

PT Cruiser version is supposed to be slightly lower IIRC at 205HP/either 225/235TQ.

Ohhhhh, that would explain a lot then, where's the insert foot in mouth smilie? :cover: I stopped looking into neons when they started making them Saturns with the Dodge logo. I'd like to see one of the newer ones now, wonder what you could do to the turbo's on them...

nice kill Ivo. i killed a newer honda civic on thre highway today. was red(not sure of the model) he came up and dropped it down and bounced it so i just gassed it in 4th(no need to drop it down thats how pathetic he was). by the time i shifted into 5th he was i'd say hummmm around 6 cars back...maybe more...lol.
who was it that you were with btw? the other cougs.
