Hi,
Picked up my Cougar yesterday; 99 T plate X pack ATX in silver frost. With 100k miles fast becoming a distant memory on the mileometer of the Xedos 6 that was my daily driver, and a mammoth Coventry-Canterbury commute to swallow 3 times a week, I guess it was time to pick up a big ol' cruiser, and the cat fits the bill just great. Funny thing is, after 9 years of running a Mazda, I find that my Cougar was built at the old MX6/ 626 plant at Flat Rock... the more things alter, the more they stay the same. Awesome build quality though, it's like this thing was bashed out of a solid block like in the Transit ads on TV.
One thing I did notice, after getting it home in the pouring rain, was condensation in the headlamp covers; is this common or do I have a leak? The car has stood on a garage forecourt for 6 weeks or so, so maybe it has something to do with that.
Going to have the baffled sump fitted after reading the italian job post back there, feel for you there bro, what a nightmare. Hey look, I'd love to hang round and chat but i got this big silver thing that needs to be driven, and I just don't have the heart to tell her no...

Welcome

Hope you enjoy your Big Cat...the headlight condensation is a common, er, feature and mine does it occasionally.
Some people have taken their headlight units apart and re-sealed them but I've not found it to be a big enough problem to bother with.

Enjoy :)

Hello and welcome Deadlock.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying your Cougar, that's what it is all about!
You will find that this board is a useful source of information, so well worth visiting regularly and sharing your experiences.
For example, upon starting the car yesterday I was greeted with an alarming fog horn type noise. Thanks to Cougarbloke I now know what this is! Thank heaven for warranties, especially at Christmas.
Mike.

Enjoying it? You could say that.... I just discovered the sport mode on the auto 'box and then all this mid-range wallop appeared from nowhere and... sod it, I'm going out in it again.

Welcome to the fold Deadlock...just sound the Horn when you pass the Gravesend East Turn-off and hit the road works for the Channel Tunnel on the A2 on your way to Canterbury. If I am walking the Dog as opposed to driving the cat I should hear you!

Just got back in. My face has undergone an involuntary muscle spasm that my girlfriend described as a manic grin. Is this normal? She thinks not, anyone else had this?

Small world Damo. Didn't get the car from Allen Ford, although I will be taking it there for servicing. Really, I would love to work on it myself, but time rules it out for now. Meeting up would be good, I looked at the specs for your car and wouldn't mind a chat about that monster over a diet pepsi or two.

Listen out for me Tuesday morning, Cliverea; I'll try to remember to sound the horn, but I might be in speed camera paranoia mode so don't get offended if I forget. Must treat myself to a Snooper sometime soon.

Looking forward to the foghorn noise, that should wind up the neighbours big style. Makes a change from the valve train clattering like a biscuit tin full of spanners from a cold start on the Mazda V6, that's for sure.

Better go out again and, erm, perform an extended headlamp test. Part of the familiarisation process, I'm not actually enjoying any of this, you know.
