View Full Version : Drag Strip Meet?

Is anyone interested in running their cars at L.A.C.R? I also want to run my car at California Speedway, but they have yet to release their winter schedule. I figure we can have a meet at LACR in Palmdale, hang out, see what everyone runs here. and then several weeks later, all meet up at Cali Speedway to see what we run there.
LACR only costs $15....and the track is open from 5pm-10pm. If you can get there at 5pm, then you will get in around 12-15 runs. I know the track sucks for times, but we will at least be able to compare our times, and then see how much of an improvement it is down at Cali Speedway.
I am thinking of hitting up LACR sometime after SEMA. I need to do one more dyno tune and then my car will be in tip top shape. I am thinking November 15th for LACR, and then maybe the first Friday in December for Cali Speedway (if they are open by then).
If you want to do this, just post in here and we can all meet up and have a good time.

Hey Sweet! A couple of friends and I were thinking of going up there anyway in the very near future with his t-bird sc and my other friends 35th anniversary camero. I really wanna run but would be killed dues to other circumstances if a certain someone ever found out I raced my car before it is totally paid off. None the less I will drive it up there if we are meeting. Be great to finally meet some of you.

this sounds cool, i would be interested..
Also, I know Qualcomm hosts street racing style races every saturday (I believe). They did this to try to stop all the illegal street racing in SD, I think its a pretty cool idea.. if anyone wants to look into that further, it could be a fun meet

I suppose we can make a tentative date of Nov 15th as the date we want to do the LACR Friday Night drag racing?
Is that okay with everyone here?

Hey merCougar, I think you should race. The only way to learn is to actually try it. It would also be a good baseline run to see just how much your mods affect your car in the future.

Its not that I have race jutters...believe me i want to race it. I raced up there last year with my previous car. Just want to get a few more miles on the car before I drive it hard.

Sweet. I will arrive at the track around opening time... say 5:30pm... And will stay all night long. After the racing is over, we can all cruise back to my house if we want, or go grab a bite to eat.
Here are some simple directions to the track:
Get to the 14 North... Exit Pearblossom Highway. Take Pearblossom Highway East about 10 miles. You wil come to an intersection that has a gas station on the left corner. You will want to proceed straight through the intersection which becomes Avenue T. If you turn left, you head to Palmdale, if you turn right, you head to Victorville, neither of which you want to do.

If anyone has any questions, just PM me and I will get back to you....

Sweet... gonnna have some Cougars to race with...should be alot of fun...
I will be rolling on my stock 15's, removed rear seats and I'll have my test pipe in place of my cat converter....so yeah, my car will be quite loud....but it does sound pretty mean!!!
Nikolas
PacmanTravis
11-12-2002, 05:38 PM
Heck, I want to race that IS300 or Nissan. Should be fun.
Just how hard is it to remove the rear seats? Im taking out my sub and my spare, but will taking out the back seats help THAT much?
Draxas
11-12-2002, 06:33 PM
I have found that if you remove the rear seats and the front passenger seat, that the total weight is very close to 100lbs.... rule of thumb in drag racing is that for every 100lbs you remove from the car (while keeping HP a constant), your time will drop by 1/10th of a second....

If you ask me you should race it the same way you drive it everyday. Otherwise it like false advertising.
MeccaManx2
11-12-2002, 09:11 PM
i planned to take my seats out also. i dont care if im driving it like how it is everyday or with a stripped interior. i just want to do every lil thing just to see that lil 14 on my timeslip.
PacmanTravis
11-13-2002, 06:54 PM
While this isnt gonna be my first time "drag racing"...its gonna be the first time I actually go to a strip to do it. Any advice and such? Like..tire pressure and all that. I do want to hit that 14 second 1/4 mile. And if CougarDemon could do it with just the IAT mod, Intake and Pulleys...I think I have a good shot.
Mecca and Nikolas, what mods do you guys have>
Draxas
11-13-2002, 07:41 PM
trust me....none of us are gonna be hitting 14 seconds at this track unless we have at least a 3.0L swap, Nitrous, or a blown 2.5L BUT, if you run a 15.5 or better, that is equal to a 14.9 at sea level... LACR is 2700 ft up...and the thinner air realllllly hurts you...
but anyways....
My mods as of now:
6" S&B Filter
75mm ProFlow MAF
SVT TB
SVT UIM/LIM
19lb injectors
MSDS Headers
No Cat
Flowmaster Muffler
Diablo Chip
Koni Struts
Progress Springs
CF Hood (not really a mod)
OMP Front STB
ST200 Rear STB
OzziSVT 24mm Rear Anti Sway Bar
Battery relocated to trunk.....
My previous best run at this track was a 15.77 that was with:
KKM Intake
MSDS Headers
High Flow Cat
Flowmaster Muffler
and all the lowering stuff......
If Im not faster this time around, I will be pissed.....heheheeh or I just suck.....
Nikolas

11-13-2002, 08:13 PM
Hmm..then I guess my goal for that track is 15.5 or below. Im hoping my cat is "a freak of neco" and produces more power than most, heh. As for taking out the rear seats (the tops) how can I go about doing that? I know i can remove the bottoms pretty easily...but its the tops im worried about.
MeccaManx2
11-14-2002, 03:10 AM
i know i wont be hitting 14 cuz of the circumstances but ill be bringing my calculator and do the conversion after every run, hah. as for the back seats the top part is bolt down on the back of em. just fold them down and unscrew, i think there are 8 screws in total. im really hoping for 14's though, if i can hit a 15.5@92 with a 2.4 60ft then i can definately hit a 14 with a 2.2 60ft with my most recent mods.
are the time slips already converted?
Draxas
11-14-2002, 12:17 PM
The time slips are not converted.... so just subtract .6 from the E.T. and that is a very good estimate of your sea level time...
The rear seats.... Fold them down and then you will have to peal the carpet backing up on the back of the seats. You will see that there are two hinges per seat that need to be detached...two screws per hinge.......
California Speedway isnt even Sea level, I think it is around 1300 feet... so you would subtract .2-.3 there as well....
Nikolas

11-14-2002, 09:31 PM
Are they regular screws? or like Torx bits?
MerCougar67
11-14-2002, 10:25 PM
They should be just regular hex head bolts if i remember correctly.

damn it...looks like I might not make it to the track in time (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&2ex=1&src=maps&ct=NA&1y=US&1a=34206+Doheny+Park+Road&1p=&1c=Capistrano+Beach&1s=CA&1z=92624&1ah=&2a=%5B5500-5599%5D+PEARBLOSSOM+HWY&2s=CA&2c=PALMDALE&2ic=31&2ex=1&2g=bWjeUrlD7W5q6Jirek9U7A%253d%253d&2y=US&2z=93552&2l=w2pBVrZQwjw%253d&lr=2&x=57&y=9) :banghead:
I get off work at about 7:00...how many runs do you think I could get?
Draxas
11-15-2002, 03:33 PM
If you got off work at 7pm, by the time you made it to the track you will only get 1 or 2 runs in. The best way is to get there at 5:30, then you can get in about 10 runs from 6-8pm....

I just did that IAT mod! yay! heheh. I also took out my sub, box, and stock UIM that i somehow left in the box and never took out of my trunk. My car pulls a lot better now. Dont know HOW much better, but I like what I feel.
I should be getting to the track at around 530-6. Like nikolas, if anyone want my cell #, or wants to drive up there with me (Glendale,Burbank,Pasadena area) just PM me.
