Well after the dealership tried to rip me off, it all totaled up to 1040.55 for just a new fuel pump and starter....SO who wants to help me "do it yourself" for 1/4 price.....damn dealerships.

Today im going to replace the filter, and hopefully it will run a little better....sine they checked the pump, its been running harder. I bet they did something so I would bring it back in. Someone said a focus pump will work, anyone know of a different type as so I wouldnt need to go through this for a 4th time? The dealership even said" damn, how many pumps are you going to break?" I told them untill I get one that actually works longer than 12000 miles......First pump went out at 34000 miles, second one right at 45000 due to faulty replacement or something like that, now this one at 60400 miles...****!!!

You could always use an aftermarket fuel pump.

I am on my third one and hoping it goes out soon. There is a how-to for an aftermarket pump under Problems or How-To, can't remember where I saw it. Since you had your first one replaced within warranty time, you might look into Lemon Laws. I order a TXDOT Lemon Law complaint form and gathered up all my receipts, if mine goes out again, I'm going to Mercury to ask them to make an offer on the vehicle and if they don't, I'll file a complaint with TXDOT.
I'm not sure about doing the starter.

Lemon laws only apply the first year or two/12-24k miles of the car. Once you go past that, you can't claim the lemon law.

I did a lot of research and spoke to a lawyer already, my first one went out at about 15k, second one less than 1k after that, 3rd one at 29k, I'm just now at 36k. They told me the one they are using now is "new and improved" (heard that before) and seems fine for now. If all goes well, I still like the car and would rather not do that, but if they want $450 at the dealer when this goes out again now that I'm outside of my official warranty period, it will hit the fan.
There is a new hanyes book out for the cougar that can tell you how to do it..
Good luck
