Which chip for our cougar works the best? I know of a jet chip and the diablo of course and also the new chip james uses in his cougar. I was wondering which performs the best and adds the most power.

They all do the same things basically. Raise rev limiter, quicker shifts, etc. Do a search for diablo or diablo chip and you should be able to find out the basic info. The weapon r product is not a chip, its a piggyback unit i think you have to solder into place, dunno how easy it is to install or remove (in case of warranty work) Also not sure if you can have it reprogrammed whenever you want. No I don't mean like an Apexi or something. Diablo chips you can have a shop dyno tune your car and adjust the programming on it. And the diablo being 1/3 of the cost and doing pretty much the same thing, I chose Diablo. Well I chose diablo before weapon r's product was out, but would still choose diablo again.

Hopefully someone who has installed the weapon r as a customer can comment on their experiences.

Weapon-R! Weapon-R! Weapon-R!

Okay, on a serious note... if you can spend the extra money and know how to work either good wire taps or a solder iron, then go for it... I've had it installed since the second week I've had the car, and I can disconnect it should I have to go to the dealership within 30 seconds. Mods the shift points (at least on my ATX) to much more manageable times, and it seems to prevent my transmission from delaying a downshift when I push the gas... it's really cool. I've seen no gas mileage increase nor decrease (although I didn't have the car long enough without it to be educated), but it's around 22mpg in the city.

Good luck with whatever chip you choose!

DO NOT buy the Weapon R! Go for Diablo its half the price and far better then Weapon R!

besides upping the rev limiter which i dont need and shifting quicker for a atx what would the benefit of a mtx owner be?

The weapon R kicks ass, I forgot what the numbers were, but I think on Jame's mtx he got like 15 hp and 22 ft-lbs of torque to the crank. I'm sorry, but a diablo chip isn't going to net you numbers anywhere near that. When you take a good look at it, buying the weapor R ECU will net you more power then headers. The big advantage for MTX owners is the re-worked fuel and ignition maps, yes it can make that much difference. That's about the only advantage for an MTX. Unless you have SVT or racing cams, the raised rev limiter isn't going to do squat for you neither will the removal of the speed govenor unless you have a cougar that didn't come with the sports package. Spend your money how you like, but if you're serious about improving the performance of your car I'd go with the weapon r.

The stock basic program for Diablo won't give you that kind of gains, no. But the weapon r is tuned to James' mods. So unless you have those exact mods you won't get that gain. I'm not sure if he just had intake/exhaust or if he had the svt uim/tb as well. Keep in mind you can get a diablo chip for $200 and goto a shop that can custom tune your car on the dyno and I'm sure you'll get just as much performance as a weapon r. Plus if later on you add more mods you can re-custom tune the diablo. No one with the weapon r has answered if you can have the weapon r "reprogrammed". I think they are coming out with a stage 2 chip for more mods, but that would mean u can't reprogram it.

he just had intake and exhaust, and what the weapon r does that the diable doesn't is effect spark or ignition timing. if you look at it his dyno graph, he pulled up all that torque from the low low end which is due almost completely to maximized ignition timing. i have never heard of anyone even coming close to those numbers from the diablo chip, else for $200, don't you think everyone would have it? I think i've read a few cases were some people didn't get anything from the chip, that may have been while they were still having problems though, not really sure. but you're right about the updates to the ecu. from what i understand, if more people bought the stage 1 there would be more reason to build the stage 2. i think most people have issues buying anything from weapon r because of that whole headers disaster, but the ecu is a solid product, no doubt. i don't have it cause i have a deposit down on the turbo and i still think i'm headed that route, but if that falls through i'm definitely going to grab one.

My Diablo does to that.

That too.

Yep...Diablo is cool too.

I have seen a mileage increase by about 2-3 around town, and a couple more on the highway depending on air temp...

I have the Diablo chip and it has been sitting in my back seat for two weeks now. I have to say, my gas mileage has gone up and I have noticed a significant gain in low end horse power. I haven't been to the dyno yet though!!
