So after getting tired of sitting around on my Cougar project, I ordered the Superchip ECU upgrade. I also got tired of my mismatched front end break hardware which is only chewing 3/4 of the pad so I ordered the KVR cross-drilled rotors and Mintex C-Tech pads. Got a few other things but these two things in particular are the source of my migraine..

Chip story short and sweet.. Car wouldn't idle or run steady at a cruise speed and would stall out and backfire... Timing was too far advanced and the mixture ratio was way off in the proggie... sent that back and had to fix the damage it caused to the original computer..

Finally after 3 weeks of waiting on the break parts.. I go to put them in and the rotors fit fine, match the stock ones in diameter.. however the pads still dont line up.. as if the calipers hold them too far out.. but theres no space for a bigger rotor so the rotors are correct.. so I spent the weekend at shops and had them pull out every type and size of pad for both 4 and 6 cyl cougars 99 and 2k.. and had them pull all the pads for comperable contours which were of course the same.... NONE of them would either fit my calipers, or would fit and not line up correctly... In conclusion.. looks like the calipers in the car are not the right ones for a contour or cougar, meaning someone must have messed something up in that car and had to replace a few things and didnt get the right stuff...

Conclusion - Car going back to dealer first thing in the morning, maybe for the last time. :(:cry::shrug:

Sorry to hear that man! :(

I've been apprehensive of that damn Superchip from the day I heard of it....
Glad I didn't end up getting one!
