No, this isn't a re-hash of the same tired topic. :)

I'm on a rush mission to get a hood scoop shipped, painted and installed in time to show up at Cougar Fest with my first significant mod. Ordering the scoop through CustomCougars and having it painted at a shop recommended by them. But, the shop suggests painting the entire hood (with the scoop on) so that it all matches. Which runs pretty hefty ($200 + about $75 for paint).

Do you all think that having the entire hood painted is the best route? I'd planned on just having the scoop itself painted and having them install it.

Opinions? (Please!? :) )

Thanks!

Depends on how good the shop is. I have laser red, and the place I took mine to matched the paint perfectly. And you are talking about a four coat process.

I personally wouldn't worry about it...if they know what they are doing, they can match it just buy the paint code and looking at your car.

If the panel shop cant match the paint Id be surprised..Ive had lots of stuff added to my car and the paint process was a perfect match everytime....

Id say they are just trying to get a few extra dollars out of you?

What coulours your cougar....Cos Group 1 colours are fairly easy to match..

I don't think it's a matter of trying to rip me off or anything... Just wondering if maybe I didn't explain the situation well enough, or if folks usually just have the whole hood painted. CustomCougar suggested taking the gas door off and leaving that for a match... and saying, in no uncertain terms, just to paint the scoop. Having the whole hood painted requires, by nature, leaving the car... which leaves me thumbing. :)

You should be able to just leave them the scoop and have them paint it. Most people install them themselves, or have other members do it for them. (hinthint Fett, mine is still in my truck)

Good luck,
Sunni :)

It's happening. Getting the thing tomorrow (or UPS gets a hurting), and having it painted Friday, and slapped on Saturday. Is there anything that you all would recommend that I go behind the shop to make sure is done (mainly to prevent rusting or any horrific seperation incidents on I-81 on the way to Cougarfest).

Pardon my paranoia.... but I'm having 8 holes drilled in my car. :) Goes against my nature. :)

Scoop is in, dropped off for painting. Initial reaction: Furious Imports seems like a top-notch enterprise. Saturday is when it all plays out... Stay tuned. :)

You should have no problem. I didn't even watch as they drilled those holes into my hood. I didn't even want to look :) Took the two guys at the shop about 10 minutes. Of course, I bought the scoop already painted. And black is pretty much black, so there is no difference in color that I see. It looks awesome. I know you'll be happy with it.
