I ran mine through a bracket/hole behind my brake. it's a factory hole on the 99 auto's.

you should run the power wire through the same line as your Trunk Release... thats what i did, you have to do a little adjusting to the hole but it works.... splice the wires from your rear speakers and you should be laughing

Future Shop drilled a new hole in my fire wall. He said water would leak if he put the wire through anywhere else. Not sure if that helps you....

yeah, if you have an MTX they will more than likely drill a new hole through your firewall, but the ATXers have a hole already there (where the cluth would have gone if they had a manual)....

Well since Mike won't let me start another thread..

Does the 2001 Cougar with Premium Sound have Amp pre-outs?

mine is hooked up to the stock deck....so you shouldn't have to many issues....you might have to go Mono off the factory deck though

You dont need RCAs.....they are a bit better, but as you know the stock deck doesnt have preouts. Your amp sould come with a "High Level Input" plug thing. Somehow you hook that up to the deck......

What do you mean by going mono? I know stereo's but no da lingo!

I looked at my engine bay and for the love of god I couldn't find a way to get power wire through the fire wall. Help!!!

Dude... okay listen.... the hole im talking about is right near the drivers side..... just follow the wire that runs your hood release.... serious man... just keep looking for it... then run the power wire through the carpet on the drivers side.... i'm gonna be in Barrie this weekend... if you can't find it by then i'll try to meet up with you.

When I wired up my Cougar, I drilled a hole near the clutch... if you're not using a really big power cable, you can run it along the side of the door... if you lift up the carpet a bit, you'll see a plastic tube to hold the shape of the carpet beside the door sill. You can fish the power cable through there.

If you are using the factory deck, you need to get a high-low converter (they sell them at Radio Shack, Futureshop, Walmart, Crappy Tire)... this will tap into your speaker wires to give you two RCA plugs to hook up to the amp. The easiest place to do this would be behind the deck itself, and you can run the RCA cables in the same manner as the power cable but on the other side. This won't sound too great, if you want better sound, go for an aftermarket deck. Anything around $200 sounds better then that Ford POS stereo.

As for ground point, if you mount the amp in the trunk, the best place I found was where the back seats folded down. There's some metal exposed, just drill a hole and screw your ground cable down.

The most inportant thing is, if you plan to drill, make sure there is NOTHING on the otherside of the firewall before you drill.

I'm not too sure where the remote wire for the amp would go with the stock deck... I'd imagine you would tap into the ignition wire.. not sure tho.
