Ok here's the problem. I have a CD/Tape deck from a 99 Cougar and I am putting it in my car in place of my
Single CD deck. I pulled the radio and the harnesses are different on the back of the two radios. Other than
going to the dealership to get a wiring harness from a 99 is there anywhere else I can get the harness that
would go into the radio. Also anyone with the wiring diagram for the 99 wiring harness I would appreciate it.
I have the wiring diagram for the 00 so I just need it so I can match everything up.

The 99 deck has square harnesses and the 00 has long rectangular. Also the 99 doesn't have a seperate
harness for the CD changer, but it will control it so they must have added a seperate harness for the changer
in 00.

Side note, they even used the standard antenna plug on the 99 so I have to get an adapter for that too (I
know where to get that).

Just go to any stereo shop, and get the harness that'll connect to the plug that's going into your old radio, and then the reverse harness that'll plug into the new one. Connect the two harnesses wires color for color, plug it all in, and you should be set.

Yea I know, I'm just trying to find somewhere to get the reverse harness other than Mercury since they will
want a lot more than the part is really worth.

best buy should have both harnesses and they should cost about about $17 each just tell them and they will give you the right plugs

Nope, Best Buy/Circuit City don't carry the harness that goes into the back of a stock radio. They only carry
the adapter for the harness that goes into the stock radio made so you can put in an aftermarket radio. I'm
just going to get the harness that goes into the CD/Tape deck, cut off my stock harness and splice the wires.
There's no need to buy two harnesses, all you need are the wiring diagrams for the Single CD harness and the
CD/Tape harness so you know which wire colors to match up.

Actually, Best Buy DOES have the reverse harness. I know this for a fact cause I install car stereos there. So either the shop you went to was out of stock, or the guy you talked to didn't know what the hell he was talking about.

yeah i know i am right cause i worked install at bby and if those installers can't show you the right harnesses they are the biggest morons in the world

No they have a wiring harness that connects to your stock harness for an aftermarket stereo but do not
carry a harness that plugs directly into a stock deck.

Hum, sounds like they were telling you to get on that goes to your stock harness and one that goes to your new head unit and reverse one and put them together??

Argggg, I know this , I've done stereo install for over ten years now, I am just trying to find somewhere to get
the stock harness for the CD/Tape deck other than Ford who will want way more than the thing is worth.
The local junkyards aren't an option since they will only sell me the harness w/ the radio and all the local shops
tell me to go to Ford:rolleyes:. My main hope was that someone that has taken out their CD/Tape deck and
put in an aftermarket deck either rewired or cut out the stock harness and have it laying around.

Also their is no need to buy multiple harnesses to do this job, just the one for the CD/Tape deck and then cut
off the original one and hard wire the CD/Tape deck one in.
