the important thing is that you're ok....you're another living example of how safe our cougars really are....it really sucks about the car though, i hope they can fix it up good as new....

btw, if you wanna call off the mod meet, that's cool...

What kind of damage we talking here? Cosmetic? Structual?

When I was rear-ended by that dump truck, all my damage was cosmetic, it may look bad, but it might not be that serious.

Sorry about the car, but i'm glad to hear you're OK.

Geez. Just wanna echo the fact that as long as you're OK that's what really matters and I'm glad to hear that is the case.

Hopefully the Cougar will be back to normal too.

just as a side note, the RSTB saved my life and the cars, the body shop said if i didnt have that in, the impact would have cut the car in half , or severly bent it.

so far we are only looking at cosmetic, i dont see any frame damage, esitmate will be done tomorow but its around $8,000 he said

edit: thanx for the support much appreciated, on the up side they are fixing/replacing my rear bumper, after that i am going to see how much it would cost to have them fix the front hood stone chips and front bumper, while its in.

edit again: ajay ew are still having the mod meet, we just have to do something to the PT cruiser i'm driving

I'm glad your okay!!! Oh no!! your poor kitty :(

Ahhh!! I gotta go back to work :( I'll finish reading on my break

Only thing I caught was about the RSTB .....that thing is truely amazing. They stop the car from spinning out too.

05-23-2002, 04:06 PM
shoot man, i just saw the pics....those are hard to look at man....but, on the upside, hopefully there is no damage to the frame, there will obviously be some suspension damage (while they're fixin it, just tell em to throw in some roush springs and koni struts :) )...but it looks like everything held together ok all things considered...

and are you saying that your RSTB actually survived that? did it bend at all? did the bolts shear?

ShadowCat
05-23-2002, 04:27 PM
I couldnt wait any longer....I had to get the rest of the details...

All I have to say is OMG!!! custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

You're okay?...No whiplash?
How did this happen? In the pics, is the car sitting on all 3 and a 1/2 wheels or is that one broken right off the arms? It looks bad! :(

I feel bad because last night while I was swearing at my car over something as trivial as the headlights you had an awful accident :(

edit: I can't type properly

MTDrew

we think the bar might be bent... its hard to tell at this point .. but it definatly saved the frame, and more than likly i would had to have been cut out if it wasnt for that bar....

however he is trying to source another one for me .. LOL, either way its coming out and they are putting it back in ... :)

the guy in the oncoming traffic tried to avoid a collision i was in the left hand turn lane, to avoid a head on collision i hit the gas to go around the corner, and wham. my fault cause i tried to save my car and turned left ..

it will be fixed, and this time without stonechips and fixed front and rear bumpers .. so essentially better than when i got it.

thanx everyone ...

its a good idea piyo .. but at this point i just want my car back to the way it was, i dont know what i'm gonna do if my RSTB is toast, i cant live without it, so i am hoping that he can source the parts for me

Mike
05-23-2002, 08:01 PM
Damn man! That looks worse than I thought! custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

I know thats not what you want to hear, and i'm sorry, but my car had a lot less damage than that (it was all cosmetic), the repair bill was about $7,000, and my Cougar was out of commission for a month and a half! :(

But, like I said earlier, as long as you're ok, the car can be fixed. :)

Drew,

Sorry to hear about your car, but we're glad you're okay. You could fight the liability due to the circumstances, it would save your insurance rates.

i hate accidents... :(
i feel for you man, i LOST a whole cougar to one, and now that i have my new one, im too freaked out to drive it as much as i did the last one.

i really hope everything works out for the best!

MTDrew
05-24-2002, 10:25 AM
i am alittle more cautious/paranoid around left turns, other than that i was always a pretty careful driver,

"fingers crossed" i'm hoping when they inspect it that the frame isnt bent.

the police report says that the other car was going 45 KPH, these wheels are designed to snap off at 55-60 .. weird huh,

ND4SPD
05-24-2002, 01:30 PM
yeah very weird!
cause the rim still looks unscratched.

i dont think the frame would be so badly bent that its un-fixable...
you got hit in the side... so the only have to worry about pushing the frame in the opposite direction (if its bent at all)

what destroyd my car, was: even though it wasnt a serious accident, it was a front end collision, the engine was fine...it was just that the frame was pushed backwards AND to the side... to it was going to cost 16k to fix, and the car was only work 18k so the insurance said "no way" *those bastards*!

your car looks bad, but it could be worse... im sure it can be fixed!

good luck! let us know what happens

MTDrew
05-24-2002, 01:39 PM
actually you cant see from those pics .. but the rim is pretty banged up around the edge, it has to be replaced.

they wrote off your car, how high did your insurance go up

ND4SPD
05-24-2002, 07:48 PM
well, it went up, but not too too much,
the main reason for that was that i was 100% not at fault.

metakone
05-24-2002, 08:40 PM
hey its too bad about your car drew
atleast ur doing well....

lets hope it work out for ur car ...

MTDrew,

Because of no-fault insurance, the people that are in the accident get higher rates no matter who is at fault. My insurance has gone up $400/yr even though a tractor trailer cut me off! I still have to go to court in August to fight a stupid careless driving charge that the cop gave to me anyways  Here, I survive a serious accident and the cop gives me the ticket :disgust:

Anyways, I'm glad your OK and that the car can be fixed. Mine was a total write off.

MTDrew
05-27-2002, 06:19 PM
got word from the insurance co, and the total cost is 10,279

9LIVEZ

And they decided not to write it off? custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

LincolnGuy
05-27-2002, 07:05 PM
Yeah
its cosmetic work, and i figured that it would cost them a lot more to pay the value on the car.

But we talked to the shop today, and they will be professionally reinstalling the ST200 RSTB.
Gave them puck's instructions, wonder if the beer part of the instructions will be covered by insurance
LOL

CBASS
05-28-2002, 10:21 PM
Glad to hear your ok man!!! I had one of them before in my sunfire...totalled!! Anyway ND4SPD if you were not at fault then your insurance shouldn't have gone up due to the accident...probably a rate increase by the company.

Palerider, there are fault determination charts which give % of fault to each side. The way no fault works is if Ajay plows into me running a red light Ajay is 100% at fault. My company fixes my car at no cost to me. Ajay gets his company to fix his, if he has collision coverage and pays the deductible.Ajay rates probably increase..mine don't.

The reason being is that instead of going to court to argue over who pays, someday the roles will reverse...Someone from my insurance company will hit a person from Ajays company..So why waste all the money is court.

Well, well, well.

Seems to me like someone else had a little boo boo with their Cougar.

Christina "beached" her car on an island, well, not quite "beached", but damn close.

Anyways, heres the picture (http://www.fastcougar.com/forums/attachments/ChrisDumbAss%2EJPG).

christina, any visable damage ?

Mike
05-29-2002, 10:45 AM
None of its visible.

She has a flat, a leaking oil pan, and MAYBE some slight suspension damage.

ShadowCat
05-29-2002, 11:50 AM
Okay this is what I know so far....
I need an alignment, new tires, oil pan and gasket.

There is still the possibility that I bent my rim, and that I could need some new suspension parts, such as tie rod ends and a stabalizer bar.

I got an estimate on the oil pan with install and its 724 plus tax.

If the curb had been an inch higher, id prolly need a new from bumber, air bags, muffler, and a hell of a lot of new stuff under the car and in the suspension. As it is it came within millimeters of ripping the bottom of my car off.

Drew, any news about your car?
