Just wondering if there is any way possible to wire in an audio input jack into a Kenwood head unit. I have a mp3 player and was going to run a audio cable out through the headphone jack into my Kenwood CD-Player. I am going to place the mp3 player on the passenger seat and run a cable to the input jack. I have no idea how to go about doing this. Later on I will be hooking up a laptop to play MP3's through the same audio input. On the back of the unit there are 2 sets of preouts for amps but no input. Any help would be great.

If the head unit you own does not currently have some sort of auxiliary input device (some head units have this capability by connecting an adapter in place of a CD changer), then it would cost you more to have your head unit modified to do this than it would cost you to go out and buy a different head unit that DOES have an auxiliary input.
Sorry for the bad news....
Yeah Keane is right. That why I bought the Kenwood z727, it has an aux input on the rear of it just for mp3 players and other portable devices.

I bought a panasonic headunit (model number CQ-DP171U to be exact) that is mp3 cd ready for $250 shipped. It has great sound output and 45W per channel. It also has audio in and audio out jacks on the back for simple audio installation. I'd suggest buying something like that instead of rewiring everything. If its that old you could probably use a new one anyway.

Actually, you can buy on ebay an FM modulator for under $50. This would have 2 RCA inputs, and connect inline to the antenna.
Last time I checked, nice new head units weren't going for under $50 . . . ;)

Um, what model Kenwood receiver do you have? if you look on their websire, they sell an auxilary input adapter for kenwood receivers that plus into the cd changer plug. It's like $25, I have one. you can oplu whatever you want into it. Computer, MP3 player, video games....... Check that out and see if it will work with your receiver, I'm pretty sure it will.
Hey-- I did this exact thing, except for my MD player. I have the Kenwood KDC-MP919 and I bought the Kenwood CA-C1AUX (http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-Sgx3NtQgKYV/ProdView.asp?s=0&i=113CAC1AX&o=&a=0) for the back. Now my audio inputs are fed through the small compartment under the headunit and I hook the MiniDisc player right up to that. Works perfectly!
