Last night, I line up to this Porsche model 944 at a light. My friend, who's a really bad influence, tells me to race him, so I rev my engine and he revs back. Well I judged the light perfectly and took off first by punching it halfway to the floor. When it tached at 4100 I threw the peddle to the floor before it could switch gears and we were off! The porsche kept up with me until about 95mph and then we slowly began to pull away and topped out at 115mph! By then, I was more than 1 1/2 car lengths ahead of him so I threw on my flashers to let him know that I won  I am so thrilled with the performance of my kitty:).

sorry to break it to ya but YOU may be racing him but he probably wasn't caring about it. I mean last time I checked, as great as Cougars are, they aren't as fast as a Porsche yet..unless you had some totally hooked-up Cougar. ;)

Or maybe his Porsche had a cold or the flu.

Well, it depends on the year model of the 944. The 1983 version, for example, ran about a 15.9-16.0 1/4 mile for the non-Turbo model. Also, a good launch makes all the difference.

But with a passenger in the car.. eh, I dunno how much I can believe an ATX Coug even with an awesome launch...

Well, The Porsche was definetly an old one, one of the "4"'s was missing from the "944" numbering. Anyways, I was just at car-stats.com and saw that the 1984-86 year models ran 16.6 seconds for the 1/4 mile. And the porsche driver also had a passengar in his car(couldn't tell what the gender of the passenger was though, either a really ugly women or a really good looking dog;)). Regardless, I am still immensely impressed with the cougar's performance.

I totally believe him. A guy I work with has a mid 80's Porsche 944. We've never raced (although I don't know why), but we've both been in each other's cars and we agree that it'd be a pretty close race. My friend's car seems like it's got a little better low end, but it feels like I can beat him in the high end.

I think you are the first person that is happy with the performance of an ATX coug. It royally sucks. Only ATX I would want is Franks cuz its fast..

Thank you CatMan! I appreciate the support. You should definetly race him. I still haven't gotten over the rush. Plus you get bragging rights!(just leave out the model of the Porsche, and it sounds really really good!;))

Red2kcougar, I'm not a huge fan of the atx in the car but I am tremendously impressed with any car that takes out a Porsche!

yeah, ATX isn't my first pic, but for what i got, its an never let me down when i thought I had a chance. My dad in his stock ATX coug beat a 3series beemer and the beemer was fighting for it. I'm impressed with how the ATX carries itself.

watch out on interstate pulls for those 944's. they have GREAT pull from about 50 or 60mph.

I don't know about you guys but we call the 944 the poor man's Porsche. (not like I could afford any Porsche but...) I would race one and beat it.

(not like I could afford any Porsche but...)

I've seen 944's selling in the 10k range, and almost bought one, but the turbos are hard to come by at a decent price. It may be the poor man's Porsche but I still like them anyway.

That's funny, I just got my @$$ handed to me today by an older 3 series beemer.

oh okay..Bond, you didn't tell me that the Porsche model was an older one. I'm still skeptical about an ATX Cougar dusting a Porsche but you can certaintly hang with one. And that reminds me, I beat another Civic with (yet again) Altezzas, cheap 17 inch rims and exhaust. Those are soo common nowadays that it should come stock. Anyways, i whiped that Civic pretty badly by like 2 1/2 car lengths. :)

yeah, 944 porsches are like... porsches' attempt at making an average looking car. (my oppinion)

and what red2kcougar said about bond being the only one happy with the atx performance... i was happy with it when i had an atx cougar... sure, it wasnt the greatest, but really, i can only remember losing like, 2 races or so in the 3 years i had it... and that was everything from tank-like volvos, to ricey civics, to one imparticular 2000 mustang.

the atx has power... its just not as effective as an mtx cougar has, thats all.

Sonza I know what you are saying ever once in awhile I see a 944 selling for cheap but 10K is still too much for me. If I had 10k my Cougar would be hittin 11's not 14's hehehe
