Angeles Crest Mountain Cruise? (5/18)

Just want to see if there is interest in an Angeles Crest Mountain Cruise.

Some dates that I suggest as possibilities are:

May 11th and May 18th.


We would meet up at the 210 freeway exit for Highway 2. There is a shopping center to the south of the freeway that we can meet up at, and then start our cruise up Highway 2. We would then follow The Crest up to a predetermined ending point which would be one of several places:

Newcombs Ranch (A Restaurant) ---- 27 miles from 210 freeway
First lookout after tunnels.
Turn around point at call box just past Grassy Hollow visitor center.
WrightWood --- about 50 miles from 210 freeway

If we go all the way to Wrightwood the round trip from start to finish will be about 3-4 hours. If we only go to Newcombs Ranch, grab a bite to eat, and then head back to the 210 freeway, it will be about 2-3 hours or so.


I have always wanted to do a mountain run, but never really coordinated it. Let me know if you are interested and we can get a small group together.

I'm always ready for a cruise; I haven been through much of Angeles Crest so this will be something new for me... The dates sound good, plus it leaves a weekend between the dyno day. I vote for cruising to either the lookout towers or the restaurant; I think that all good cruises should end up at a good eating place :)... Having a cool view along the way is a benefit, but I imagine all those places are fun to drive to. I've always liked the idea of a canyon cruise/mountain run, I know everyone would have a great time.

If this run/cruise turns out the way I see it, we might think about planning others :). I wouldn't mind taking some of you through my area (topanga, malibu area), I know of a few good places to stop for some food also ;).

I have never ben through there either so I am looking forward to it absolutely eveyone needs to go. It'll be sweet but I wanna go all the way to wrightwood. maybe do some sledding whooopppeee!!!!!!!!

And when my AWD Ruf turbo R shows up you'll all run and hide.... :rolleyes: Is this a cougar specific cruise? I wouldn't mind people showing up who don't own a cougar anymore, but I would imagine that if you do still have one that you should dust it off and bring it :). After all, that carb'd big block might only be able to make it half way up the hill before running out of gas :tongue: :biggrin: hahaha

But it sounds like it'll be a fun day.... I'm surprised more people aren't interested?

Show how little you know. I may run out of gas but the damn thing will stop and stop fast with the 14 in baer rotors up front. Plus with real engine braking unlike the new anti smog motors. that is the worst thing about new cars none of them engine brake for ****.

I really dont care who shows up and in what car, as long as they are/were associated with NECO in some way.

Hopefully we get a good turnout that day. I say we can stop at several look-out points and snap some pictures. Hit up Newcombs Ranch for some grub, then head back down the hill.

As the date gets closer, I will let everyone know exactly where we will meet up before we head up the hill. All I know is it will be a shopping center on the south side of the freeway. I just dont know the name of the business/store that is there.....

Mike you observation i believe to be correcti think they are 13.5 and they will fit some 17 but 18's for sure I don't have either yet i dn't have the brakes yet either. Im ging to by the hotchkiss kit for a taller spindle and a shortened upper a arm. it comes with the baer kit not sure witch one the brochure is at home. I have tio get the car running again before I worry about brakes but that is very soon.

If Ed can drive to the 210/2 junction you can too... hell, I have a 45 minute drive to get there as well......it should only take Ed about 35 minutes to get there or so.....

Awesome. I have about a 45 minute drive too -- I can't believe more people aren't willing to participate in this... It should be an awesome time; I'll have my OBD-2.com scanner/laptop handy that day if anyone is interested in clearing their CELs and/or doing some data logging.

Yeah, for anyone in SD, it will be quite a drive...... BUt if you live in OC or north, it really isnt that far of a drive. Plus, we have such great cars, I mean, who really minds putting 150+ miles on their car in a day or more?!?!?!?!?! heeeheheheeh.....

Exit the 210 freeway and head south. (coming from the east, you turn left, coming from the west, you turn right). Sport Chalet is on Foothill Blvd. As you approach the Foothill Blvd/Highway 2 intersection, Sport Chalet will be on the southeast corner.

I say we all meet up there at 12 noon, hang out for a little while, then head up the hill. We will want to make sure we have enough gas, as there are no gas stations on The Crest.
