I've been hearing about this techinque by some people who work for my Dad. They seem to know a lot bout cars, but i would rather have a second opnion.

They are telling me to take my springs out, and put them in to a spotting press. A spotting press is just a machine that pushes two peices of steel together. This is used for Molds, but will compress a springs enough(has a 3-5 ton pressure limit so it'll work). With the spring compressed, use a torch(or something like that, but wont melt steel, just makes it soft) and heat it for a while. Take spring out and it should be more compressed therefore when putting it back in car, it will be lower.

In my opnion i think this is just bull****, cuz arent ther stuff in the hole of spring(i belive they are shock abosrober or somthing[i dont know cars too well, but know enough])? This would be a cheap way to lower car though, that is if it does work. But this of course will be temporary till i save up enough $$$ to get shocks and the whole bunch to get it professionaly lowered in the summer. Also i personnaly think that the shocks, after enduring the heat, would be so brittle and break very easily. If it does work on the otherhand , it'll be a great tempory mod that wont cost me n e money.

They will also be very fragile.. one hard bump and snap.. no spring at all.

Above and beyond the durability factor, how can you be sure all springs will be "compressed" the same? What if one gets really short and another doesn't compress at all. You'll have a Cougar with permanent bad hydraulics.

whew... thas wut i thought, too good to be tru. I dont think i would have a problem with having all the springs at the same size cuz the machine has a very accurate scale thing i can use. But i guess i'll just wait till summer and get the kitty professionally lowered. As for now.. i need to keep on saving $$$$... n e 1 wanna donate to my cause?? ;)

Go out and buy springs for cheap (roush, eibach), then bring it to PuckPuck's house of slam and for very cheap the owner/manager of the shop will install them for you, plus you get to see his operations first hand.

For the number of times I've ripped apart a suspension i can do it with my eyes closed......
