When taking off the center piece of the dash the one around the radio, the defroster and reset buttons does the radio have to be taken out or could someone please tell me how it is connected.....clips, screws, or both

Yes, you'll have to take the radio out. There are two screws behind the radio to the top... two more screws near the ashtray I believe and a 5th screw behind the defroster buttons.
You'll have to pull the defroster buttons out, pull the radio out, and remove the ashtray and the little piece around the lighter.

And the radio is easy... takes the Ford Radio removal tools, but those are less than $5 at a nearby auto parts store.
