Just out of curiousity. My buddy wants to have a go, im pretty sure he's gonna kill me but i just wanna know how bad im gonna get taken. He has a full Injen Intake, and the boy can drive..... i have a KKM and yo-dudes exhaust.... Maybe i'll go nuts and buy some juice.... LOL whats the return policy on that like anyways.. (Joking) Thanks for your help in advance.

Hey Goose. Im not sure. But I have a buddy with the same exact thing and he wants to have a go. I def. think they will win - but I think we can hang close to them.

Hey guys, I have a stock '01 ATX V6, and I raced my friend in his stock RSX-S. Needless to say, he blew the doors off me, but you guys have some mods, and if you have an MTX, it should be a little closer. Good luck though.

He should get you pretty good, especially if he is a good driver. I really don't know much about the effects of your mods, but his INJEN really only gives about 12hp.(maybe) It's not alot. I haven't had a chance to run a coug yet, so I can't say from experience. Good luck. -TZ

Trizzane, welcome aboard. Does the injen really give you 12 hp? Anyone know?

Ah... according to the dyno's I've seen it was somewhere in that area. Some above some below, but I think that was somewhere around the average. I've been in one with the intake and didn't "feel" a difference, but the sound is definately different. Apparently some people are still having problems with the INJEN (the heatshield is still cracking, even on the second series version) If I decide to get a short ram I believe i'll go with the AEM. -TZ

I raced my friends' stock RSX S. i just got exhaust and havent tried him yet but when i had intake i lost both times we raced.
expect to be beaten by 2-3 cars (if you can drive;)) cuz i lost by about 3 w/ only intake.
hope this helps

geez... is it just me or are people who have JUST exhaust and intake crazy...
i dont know what it is...yeah, it adds a bit of more power to the car, but i think exhaust is 8hp@wheels and im not too sure about intake but even if its 10hp at best thats only 18hp, and thats not really alot in my oppinion...(its more than what you start with...which is good though)
now, im probably one of the biggest cougar lovers here  and would never doubt our cars, or the people who drive them ... but mabey im just crazy... does it really make THAT much of a diffrence guys?
i know that if i raced an exact duplicate of myself in my car then yeah, he would beat me if he had I/E (obviously)
but still... is the improvement with I/E that noticable?
edit: this is just in general... i dont just refer to this thread, i mean everyone, in every kind of car... they always seem to think they kick ass with JUST those 2 mods...

I don't believe that Intake and Exhaust makes a big difference at all. The INJEN on the RSX claims more that I would think, but I have a hard time believeing anything till I see and touch it. Exhaust really in My opinion is nothing more than a sound and appearance enhancer. In some cases it may add a few horsepower, but for the $$ I just can't justify it. I just don't see putting higher flow pipes on and reduxing my Backpressure. ( I need my torque) ON an ultra high HP motor, maybe, or TC, but not on mine especially. Some sound nice, some don't. ALthough 20 WHP increase is pretty substantial. I just don't know how many companies can really back that kinda # up. -TZ

ah!! there is intelligent life on the boards!! hehehe j/k everyone
Trizz, you have no idea how good it is to hear that... for the past while all ive been thinking was 'those mods CANT do that much.... they just cant, they are just for looks & sound... mabey a little performance, but nothing impressive'
...and then you come along... and not only seem to agree with me, but also, you dont even have a cougar! its very refreshing to hear :)
and i thought i was the only one who thought this about intake and exhausts, thank you :)

oh and Trizzane,
I have your basic v6 manual trans. cougar yadda yadda yadda... the engine is untouched, and wont BE touched until next summer...
Now, most people suggest that starting off with intake/headers/exhaust is a good start.
im just curious, do you agree with this still or what would YOU suggest starting with?

Well many people get i/e cause they like the sound, looks and maybe they just like to upgrade their car, not necessarily because they think it will make it super-fast. I only have intake right now, and I barely noticed a difference, but it sounds badass and I enjoyed putting it on; it helped me get familiar with my car. :)

i dont think im a badass with I/E:biggrin:
but i mainly did it for looks and sound, and the performance came along with it. I love my car to death and i plan to mod this thing till the devils goes back to georgia.
im talkin motor swap, turbo, the works, i love this car to death.
but about the I/E setup, all i have to say is the injen intake took 2 and a half tenths of a second of my 1/4 mile time.
havent been since i got exhaust (yet;))
but again Nd4spd, everylittle bit helps;)

My intake appears to have done the same for me, about .25 seconds off of my 1/4 testing...
In any case, here's food for thought:
18hp gain == 10+% gain. :)

yes.. yes yes, i can understand all this people.
doing it to become more fimiliar with you car -thumbs up for that... thats the reason why i try to do MOST stuff on the car (for the experience :) )
im GLAD you people still realize that you are mortal even with I/E
i guess ive just come across too many people who say "yo guy, i put this massive air filter and a 5" exhaust tip on ma ride, now the shiz mad fast yo".........anyone know who im refering to?
 mabey its just me, but i dont really concider doing Intake and Exhaust a big step in the engine mod department... even though i have NOT done it myself yet :flushed: :flushed:
its worth doing if you have other plans though, 100%... after all, im sure theres a reason why people say i/e/h is a good combo to start off with... without them, most other mods will be useless... craig told me this a while ago and i will always remember it.
if your going to do stuff to your engine, go as far as you can guys! just dont stop with just the I/E
cause thats what i probably get most upset about... the people who do it, then stop right there.

I know I say this too much but I can't wait to see what my ride runs in the 1/4. Sorry I'll be quiet now. :)

GYGER... With the amount of mods you have I would think you should be in the low 14's if not 13's. Eh ? I may be way off base, I really don't know much about the coug. Is that about waht you think? -TZ

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I felt a big difference when I added my 3" exhaust with high-flow cat. I haven't dynoed my car yet, but it wouldn't surprise me to see more than a 18 hp increase to the flywheel from adding just the intake and exhaust to my car. I still have to put on my svt stuff so I think that will help as well. I really don't think those RSX's are tooooo.... far out of reach fellas.

I don't know where you guys are getting 12 hp just for intake, maybe at flywheel but more like 5hp(at most) at wheels. Exhaust if you get a good system might bump you 5-15hp at the wheels. To get the best out of your engine get SVT: UIM, LIM, TB, MAF, and a chip of some sort i.e. superchips/Diablo to add to intake and exhaust. The only time these little mods will make a difference is if the drivers are equally skilled otherwise the better driver is gonna take it.

My frind has an rsx type s and he kills me i have a 99' v6mtx w/ mods and i run a 15.085 at a crappy track where he runs an 14.637 as our best et's. My runs are usually at a 15.1 somewhere, and he's worst time was a 14.9. All he has is an comptech cat back exhaust and it's mad as hell. I have at least 25-30 crank hp over our stock 170. Keep in mind that the type s's stock body weight is also a little under 500lbs less then us. It can be fun to race him cuase you'll smoke him off the line they have no smoke but in the higher rpm range your not gonna win. He seems a pretty good driver, let me know what happens w/ it.
Peace
Mike
I wrote a reply on the Drag Strip forum about an RSX-S I tangled with one night at the races. Someone said it right when they put it, they have no low end whatsoever, but they pull hard at the top. I beat him, so did a few others that night, but thats my experience. They are quick cars, but from the 2 S types I've raced, I think they are more on par with the old Integra GSR and not much faster. If you can get him off the line, and stay up ahead by not letting your RPMs jump too far down, you'll nail him. Slip once, and you're toast.
