Don't bother. It increases your MPG but not a lot else. I can guarantee you will not feel any difference. Spend the money on a new exhaust or a decent filter kit.

Thanks for reply..
I have already got a K&N induction and Ecotek valve installed. The induction seems to provide have a flat spot, which the guy at Superchips knew all about. Says the chip will remove that and provide better MPG and driveability..
To be honest that is more my aim, rather than the increase in speed..
I will probably try the 7 day trail and see how it goes !!

Remember with the seven day trial, if decide you don't want it you still have to pay for the fitting. In mycase, the whole lot cost £250. But when I had it removed I only got the value of the chip back, that is £175.
Arthur i have a Collins Performance Engineering chip and i have not noticed any difference, with a car as big and as heavy as the Cougar i don't think that 10-12BHP that these chips are supposed to give you will make any real difference unless it is combined with other modifications.

Well i have had chip in and been running a couple of days now..
Dyno figures show increase in torque and bhp (183)..
But i have found the drive better and smoother, lower down in the revs.. Pulls a lot better than previously..
Will remove the chip and run without to see how it goes..

183 bhp is an impressive gain. What was your before reading and have you any other mods?

Actually pre-chip showed 176bhp (K&N induction Kit and Ecotek Valve fitted), so really 7bhp gain is not really worth the money !!..
I have been running with chip now for a few days, what it seemed to be doing is using more petrol (gas), have removed it last night, see how goes..
But it looks like i will be returning the chip within the 7 day warranty !!

I so badly want to chip my car. Simply because our Yank Tank versions come with a speed regulator which only allows the car to go up to 115mph. I was going to order a Diablo Chip but pulled out at the last minute after reading many negative reviews. I might just go with the safer Superchips for the simple reason that it erases the speed govenor. They're afraid we might go too fast, burn too much fuel, and add to the depletion of the ozone layer or something.
How's everyone getting along with their chips? Did you return yours Arthur?

Actually, I noticed your car isn't the sport-package model. The non-sport package model Cougar 2 has a speed limiter at 115mph due to the speed rating of the tyres included with the vehicle. You can always attempt to find the computer from a sport-package equipped Cougar and fit it in place of your current one. My Cougar 2 tops out around 142mph.. I never was able to push it faster than that due to a light headwind and drag limitations of the car. custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

Would the Chip from a UK spec car fit? As Kuwlkitty is now back in the old country it would be easier to find a UKchip from a wreckers yard (we call them Breakers Yards) or source one from someone who has chipped their car.
That must be such a pain to be limited to 115. The authorities in the US really are control freaks. What made me laugh when I arrived at LAX was being quizzed by the US Customs Officers who wanted to know if we were carrying any FRUIT..any Apples, Oranges, Bananas, soft fruit. I nearly pulled out a vicious looking apricot but thought better of it. He had a GUN !!!!custom_images/emoticons/shocked.gif

Oh no......Not another old country comment. What will my ancestors from Italy say about this??! They'll never let me live it down that we (Yanks) had a glorious day on July 4th, 1776. Right mate:)
The UK chip idea sounds pretty good but I think it has to match my 4digit code? I might check in to the for sale forum and follow your advice NorCal and find someone who wants to part with their sport package chip.
fourth of july;):cool

We had an invasion of fruit-flies in California in the 80's (I believe), that devastated alot of our fruit crops.. they even ask you about fruits and vegetables when you cross into California from other states (if they have a checkpoint at that border) !!! :)

Yeah you are right Norcal. we got stopped at a fruit checkpoint on our way home (Chino) from San Diego. That's travelling within CA. I Know the Fruit Fly thing is a NO NO in some countries but its just the Authorities attitudes when you brush up against them. They must have a Federal bureau Of Proctologists who insert that rod up where the sun don't shine for them to all act the way they do. To us laid back europeans it's kinda funny.

Well, I suppose when you realize it's your job to detect contraband fruit, you get a little irritated. ;)

My superchip is sitting on the floor of my room, what a piece of junk, it broke my car and will spend the rest of its days gathering dust on the carpet. The difference is not noticeable abeit perhaps psychological.
