Ok, so most of you are probably aware of the fact that cougars are not off road vehicles. Well mine was for a brief period of its life last week. God damn deer and snow and stupid ass winter and..........

well ya so now i got some issues to deal with. I screwed up my front bumper pretty bad, i.e. deep deep scratches, lots of missing paint. so i got spring break next week and would atleast like to repaint the damn thing if i can't do anything else with it. so what im looking for is a how to on how to get the front bumper off and maybe even how to fill in deep scratches keeping in mind its a completely plastic surface :(
if anyone has ever pulled off their front bumper and put it back on i would love to know how ya did it so i don't f**k this up!!!!

ill search for the rest of the info i need. paint and what not but i couldn't find anything on the bumper????

Hope y'all can help me out

Peace

Dan

To remove the bumper:

Remove the grille shroud. It is held on by four round thingamajigs. I guess you kind of pry them off carefully.

Remove the grille. It is held on by a screw on either side.

Remove the headlight assemblies. There are three screws holding them in. One is near where the grille was, one is higher up on the headlamp, with the main front support holding it in. The last you actually have to look down over the headlamp assembly to see. You'll need a longer screwdriver or skinny wrists. DO NOT REMOVE this screw, as it is a PITA to put back in. Loosen it a few turns and you will be able to remove the assembly. Disconnect the electrical connectors and they're off.

Remove the upper bumper fixings. They are four round dealies that were hidden by the grille. Looks like you pry up the center of them carefully then pull them out.

Loosen the left and right front wheel nuts, jack up the car, then pull them suckers off.

Remove the radiator splash shield. Seven fasteners, not sure of the type, but there are two to either side and three to the middle.

Remove the fender splash shields. In other words, the insides of the wheel wells. Looks like seven fasteners there.

Detach the bumper cover side support brackets. You've probably seen them before at the very back of the front air dam, at the edge of the wheel wells.

Detach the bumper cover from the fender. Looks like two nuts on either side.

Remove the bumper cover.

Reinstallation is obviously the reverse of those steps. Looks like time consuming work.
