There is lots of threads about how and where to put tint on but I haven't seen anyone mention how to take it off yourself. I know I can get it done at the tint shop for $10 CDN a window....but If I can save a bit of money and do it myself it would be really nice!!
So, do you just peel it off or do you need some kind of chemical stuff?
Thanks for your help! :)

I believe a hot blowdryer and a Razor Blade are your bestfriends.... just be careful over the rear hatch window with the heating elements...

There is a spray that you can buy at auto parts stores........I want to say that also ammonia works. It is really messy and a ral b!tch to get off though....at least in my experience. Here in Texas the average price to have it removed is $75....alot of deniero. :)

christina i saw a how to on crankin chrome a few months back .. and they said razor blades, spray water bottle and alot of time... you getting new tint done ..?
i'd say go to local scrap yard with a razor blade, sandpaper, and whatever you think might work.. and go to work on old rust buckets with factory tint. atleast you dont mess up our windows if it scratches the glass
It's not fun...
You'll need to have the following..
Razor blade, blow dryer, rubbing alcohol, windex, tint remover from auto parts store, buh & tar remover
the least messy way i found to do it was heat a small portion of the window and remove the tint in small pieces.. this seems to reduce the film from annoyingly tearing and also helps to leave as little adhesive on the window...
for the rear window, i cut the tint in long strips between the defroster lines..
when done with any given window, use the cleaning liquids on it...
the rubbing alcohol or bug/tar remover will probably work the best. it did for me... also try out the tint remover... which just seems like its any regular adhesive remover.

Streetconcepts posted some info on that a while ago. Similar to using a hairdryer, tape some black garbage bags to the inside of the windows to heat the tint up
i'm pretty sure he said to do it to the outside.. because then the sun will directly hit the black garbage bags and store the heat.

So this sounds like it would be a pretty big pain in the butt. How many people have actually tried it or seen it done?

My sister did it. (I sat back LMAO)
What would probably work is that product called Goo Gone. I wouldnt think that they tint would be that hard to get off with a razor blade, I think the biggest problem is getting the adhesive off. (Of course, she did hers a few years back, I am sure the products are much better now)
Just be prepared for it to take quite a while.....and be very, very, very careful with the rear defroster. I have contemplated removing my tint by myself as well because I want to get them retinted and the removal at the shop is anywhere from $60-75. But even if I did do it myself....I wouldnt touch the rear window with a ten foot pole.
Good luck!

make sure that you insurance covers glass breakage, and then go out and shoot out your windows with a pistol or something, blame it on those crazy kids..... or you coudl do it legally

I agree with Sunni Goo Gone is the answer, along with time and patience. Good luck.
