Towards the beginning of summer, all of us in SoCal that want to drag race our cars will have to hit up California Speedway. I believe that Ed has been there with Nicoles car. I have yet to run my car at any other track than LACR...my best time there is 15.77 I have heard that running at California SPeedway can lower your times be several tenths due to the lower elevation.

However, I will not run my car again until I have a larger MAF, 19lb injectors, and my engine tuned with an S-AFC. I will more than likely run the car first at LACR to test it out and compare to my old bests at that track, and then we can organize a meet at Fontana. It will be interesting to see the different times our SoCal cars can run.

well im back. im a bit disappointed...the track wasnt as simple as i thought. i got decent times for my first time at the tracks.

slip #1 vs SI
r/t 1.89
60' 2.659
1/4 16.153
mph 82
i got a horrible start and he got a big jump on me but i caught up in the end and won(what happened to vtec) i was soo stoked about this cuz i was thinkin what if i got a .7 r/t i would have 15 flat, but after more runs i dont think it works like that.

#2 2nd gen rx-7
r/t .986
60' 2.684
1/4 15.823
mph 92.04
he beat me by .6. he still got a big jump on me but i started pulling towards the end.

#3 vs camaro
r/t .948
60' 2.377
1/4 16.458
mph 76.26
this was vs a camaro and he totally ambarassed me. he got a 13. i think this would have a really good run if my secondaries didnt give up on me, cuz isnt a 2.3 60' pretty good?

#4 vs hatchback hybrid
r/t .847
60' 2.481
1/4 15.508
mph 92.16
he had a tiny lead off the line. i thought i lost this one but when i got my slip, i beat him by .03

#5 vs friends hatchback
r/t .827
60' 2.42
1/4 15.547
mph 86.4
i beat him bad, but he f*cked up all day. his best was a 15.6

#6 vs friends 2.0 golf
r/t .847
60' 2.552
1/4 17.769
mph 74.09
i still beat him. this was a horrible run, i messed up on my launched and my tires just spin in first through 6k then i mishift into 2nd and then my scondaries fail on me.

it was a pretty fun day, well worth my 20 bucks. lots of cars to gawk at. the domestics and imports. im still thinkin bout if i just got a better reaction and 60' i would have a muc faster time. i was also thinkin bout pinning my secondaries open at the tracks so i dont have to worry about it not opening. but i dont really know what negative affects it'll have, i think ill experiment it. ill try to scan the time slips if any of you want to analyze or compare.

well i tied the secondaries open, it still drivable but you can feel the loss of torque. i dont really know if you lose horsepower but when you mash out about above 3k you can feel the surge of power, it just throws you back, probly just feels significant cuz of the loss of torque.

so if any of you got hookups to a dyno, do a before and after of this experiment.

Good times...... I think you have the same mods that I do......so it is a good comparison....

Try to get your 60ft times to the low 2.3s or maybe even some high 2.2's (kinda hard) and you will will take off about .2 from your times. The rule of thumb is for every .1 you take off your 60ft time it equals .2 off your ET.....

Also, what size rims were you using? hopefully some 15" or 16" tires and not some 18's.....Im leaning towards the smaller sizes because i really dont think it would be possible to run 15.5's with heavy 18's on the car. Some stickier tires would really help as well. Even if you got some cheater slicks that are made by BFGoodrich or Nitto...probably good for another .1-.3 off your time....

k ive been driving with the secondaries open, and now the low end doesnt feel too much different with it closed. should i get a CE light, cuz wouldnt it run lean in the low end? maybe you can tune the low end with the apex unit.

actually you cant tune any part throttle settings on our cars with the A'PEXi..... if you do, the computer in the car compensates for the extra fuel and cuts back on fuel delivery.

We can only tune in Wide Open Throttle because that is the only time the computer ignores input from the sensors on the engine and in the exhaust, thus allowing us to send however much fuel we want. Let me know how the car handles the secondaries pinned open, because I was considering doing that when I go to the track, just to eliminate the chance of the secondaries closing on me....

the car feels and drives fine with the secondaries pinned open, but it does throw a CEL. it should be fine to do it at the track, i drove with it all day and had no probems, but i dont know if its healthy for daily driving.

The next time I go to the track, I will have to pin them open, I just dont know how.... :flushed::flushed::flushed::flushed::flushed::flus hed:

You will have to show me if you come to one of our next meets.

Ed (Chauffer) and I have a theory. When you are racing the car or even just accelerating quickly, between shifts the IMRC closes the secondaries because you take your foot off the gas, and then when you shift into the next gear and apply the gas again, the valve opens. We all know the IMRC isnt the fastest thing in the world, so him and I are actually guessing that by pinning the secondaries open at the race track, you should lower your ETs....... This only applies at the track because you are always above the 3500 IMRC opening point, but by taking your foot off the gas, for however long, even a split second, the IMRC closes....... that is just our theory, yet to be proven....

I know the next big meet is Fabulous Fords in April. Are you going to that show? After that, I dont know when the next regular meet will be.

As far as the Crest goes, we will have to wait for better weather. And I would really like to have my suspension fixed by then. So I am looking at the June time frame, because I wont have money to do my suspension until then.
