well, it was my fuel pump. they checked the fuel pressure and it said that i had no fuel. the tank is full. the fuse to the fuel pump blew. they ordered the fuel pump module but it'll be at least 3 days to get it. so, i can drive it at my own risk or i can wait for the module.

Well at least it was something pretty simple:) And not something like, we don't know why it's doing that, it didn't do it here, are you sure you were driving it correctly.

the problem is if they put in the same fuel pump, it'll more than likely do it again. so, the guy said that if they see an ongoing problem with the fuel pumps, they'll update the part. he's calling right now to see if my part will be an updated one or the same as the one that just broke.

sherrie,
i had the exact same thing happen to me a while back. i got a new fuel pump and haven't had any problems since. don't know if it was an updated part of not. here is the part number is you want to compare when you get your car back:

XS2Z-9H307-AG

the part they are ordering is an updated part (the fuel pump has been updated 3 times because of all the ongoing problems). the car was running outside the shop after they changed the fuse and it stalled. so it's definitely the module and i'll get it replaced with an updated part.

Glad to hear you'll have a working cougar soon :)

Did they cover it under warranty?

is this something that happens after you have so many miles on the cougar? that we should watch out for?

Sorry to hear that!:(
Are you still under warranty?

luckily...yes i am still under warranty. i have 34k on my car and the factory warranty runs out at 36k. then i have the extended warranty until 86k. only problem is that the shop is taking forever to fix it. if i could've paid for the part out of pocket, then joe would've already fixed the car. i had to go to a mercury dealer in order for the warranty to cover it. so, i wait longer for it to get fixed but it costs me nothing. i guess that's a fair trade.

Thanks guys. I dropped it off at 8 this morning. I talked to the rep. and he told me that a rotor shouldn't have broken at 34k miles so it should be covered. He's going to call me and let me know after they check it out. :) Unfortunately, I'm stranded all day.

sorry to hear that you are stranded all day. i hope your warranty covers it. if it's considered a defective part ( which seems to be the case when the mechanic said it shouldn't have broken at 34k) then you're covered!

keep us updated......:)

Thats what I'm hoping too, hes suppose to call me and let me know either way. A friend of mine works at the service center so he said he'd try to get my car when I took it in and hook me up (crossing fingers). If its not covered under warranty, I have someone who will do the work free, then I just have to get the part.

i have that same connection.....if my stuff isn't covered under warranty, my fiance joe will do the work for free. all i have to do is buy the part. all i have to say is always be nice to your mechanics  my mechanic get so many perks ;)

Yeah, I know that one. My "mechanic" is a high school junior. He's in the votec program, he's actually going to the regional finals for auto mechanics in the votec program. He actually joined NECO even though he doesn't have a cougar, he adopts mine. He should be coming to a few meets with me. Just let him know if you need something done. His pet projects are a 2000 corvette and a 1979 z28 camaro. He tells me that a rotor is very easy for him to do.

I was glad to hear it too, according to the service report, the rotor was the wrong size for the car (odd) but because of that they also did my brakes too. So I got that problem fixed and brakes free. Worked for me. Hopefully, everybody else's problems work out as well.

my cat is ready to be picked up!!!! woo hoo!! all covered under warranty except the for the keys

i only have one original coded key to my car (other one lost while helping at an accident scene). i just called the shop where my car is awaiting it's new fuel pump. to get 2 additional keys, 1 remote, and all them reprogrammed = $100. you need both original keys to program the new ones, if you only have one, they have to reset the computer. kind of a lot of money but if i lose the only key i have, the car won't start. so, i have to do it.

Thats good. Glad you got yours back. At least you got your keys done too, all at once instead of having to give up your car again. ;)

Ive also had my fuel pump modular replaced. It never broke down on me it just kept giving me the code for the fuel pump. I took it right down and had my brother replace it. Everything seems fine for now. Good luck with your Sherri!
