View Full Version : What do you think...are these two comparable?

Hey all...I would like your opinions...

I have been putting together my sytem, and ran into a little snag (or two! hehe!) I ordered my componenets from Soundhabit.com, and got the complete run-around from them, so I cancelled my order with them, and decided to order with carstereo.com. I originally wanted the PPI 5440 5-channel amp, but was told that it was out of stock, and they might not be able to get any more, so they told me that the Apline MRV-F357 (another 5-channel) was comparable, and pretty close in price. By reading the specs, the Alpine is more powerful than the PPI, but I was just wondering what you all thought...Did I do okay by ordering the Alpine instead of the PPI?

BTW...I'll be using the amp to run a pair of MB Quart 6.5" coaxials in the doors, a pair of Pioneer 5x7 2-ways in the rear, and a Pioneer Premiere 12" spun aluminum dual-voicecoil sub. I also have the Alpine CDW-550 "swing face" double DIN head unit which has 4x40 watts of power on its own...Think it'll sound good?

Thanks for your opinions,
Charles

I had the PPI and I think that PPI has some of the best amps out there. But I never had an Alpine... from what I hear they are good to.

cwtIII,

I have an Alpine MRV-F357 in my Cougar. My speakers are Boston ProSeries 6.5 components in the front, Boston RX57 5 X 7s in the rear and a 10 in. subwoofer. I think it sounds great. You should be happy unless you're looking for extraordinarily loud volume levels.

Yea, you should get some very good sound quality out of that setup. But if you're looking to go booming down the street, you're probably not going to be able to do it with a 5-channel amp. If you want REALLY loud bass, I'd say go with a 4-channel on your speakers and a separate 2-channel amp for the sub. I personally would stick with what you ordered.

What I am after is GOOD SOUND QUALITY...I have absolutely no interest in boomin' down any street! Haha! All I want is extreremly crisp clear sound with no distorsion...I'm not a "bass head", so it sounds like I've made good choices...thank you all!
