Don't ask where I got these. Please. :)
As for my comments... the wheels ARE basically a chromed out version of the Zn rims. Wooptie doo. The "raised letter" thing seems to be basically what a lot of people here have done... just spaced out the lettering across the back. The silver inserted seats are OKAY, but nothing that really gets my blood racing. Other than a lot of cool little badges, seems to be an XR. Oh well.

question is are they actually going to build it?

actually, what does the dash look like, have you actually seen it? does it have a stock silver or some other color dash bezel? is there anything else that is color keyed silver in the interior?

The seats are nice.... but seriously its another cosmetic package ... and nothing to back it up. I give it the thumbs down...

Unless things changed.. No they won't.. they are now only (from what I've heard), building the ones that were on order.
Not to rag on anyone but c'mon, did you actually expect any new performance out of this. If they never bothered with the S (not talking about the concept S, I mean the S that was in 2001 brochures), why would they waste money on a couple hundred special editions.

Thats kinda funny how mercury is having these special editions with the same mods that we do to the car, like side markers hood scoop spoiler-roush and so on...
Id take the seats though and the zn wheels are nice when chromed...to bad they are so much dough

naa I have to give it a thumbs down as well.
I've hadn't had much luck with my cougar although its lasted 113K miles so far. With $4500+ on just repairs just last year. (not including mods).
Now just waiting for the water pump to die out or so. Fun fun.
If I hadn't had so many problems with my cougar I think I wouldn't be so harse against them hehe. But seems I got the lemon out of what 30K cars or so? Usually how it works, ever 15 cars there be 1 bad one.
But hopefully I'll be zoom zoom next year or 2004. Love the new RX-8 Mazda has coming out. Going to be interesting.
But will play it smart this time. Wait and see what the reviews will be (edmonds, motor trend, Car and Driver, or Road and Track) before I buy.

Well, as far as if it's coming out or not, at least (unlike the Cougar S), it has made it to the webpage as an available 'special edition' for purchase. :) They just don't have it as an option on 'build your own' yet. ;) Also, in the past 20 years or so, Cougar special editions have never been aything more than cosmetics, for the most part. They put it out for people who want a unique color/limited run of a car. :)

Sweet. I personally like it a lot. The wheels are nice, way better chromed out then those on the ZN, I just dont like the ZN wheels at all with all that black on them ( personal opinion I know), It is a nice car, but with production ending in 2003, I doubt it will be made.......what a shame if you ask me, the Cougar seems like a popular car around here, and everyone always comliments mine......time will tell......

I like the car. I like the rims a lot better than my Zn rims.

I'm really hoping it gets made for ONE reason...I have the ZN wheels and have been thinking about having them chromed (did it on my last car...93 Probe GT) since I never really liked the black paint, and I would need CHROME center caps to match! If they build it, I can get the center caps! I know there are a few members that work at Ford dealers...could one of you see if I can get the center caps in CHROME?
Many Thanks,
Charles

My neighbor used to work at the Lincoln Mercury office in Irvine, and when I was showing him my car with my letters spaced out, he took tons of pictures, and I mean TONS, and said he was going to try and get it into production.....well after all this time, I didn't think it was going to happen, but DAMN, Look at the trend I started;)

Didn't the Cougars lettering used to be spaced out at one time? On Older models from the 70's?
The pictures come from www.media.ford.com and we do have permission by Ford to use them for news purposes on NECO.

Wow! Those wheels are sick! I'm wondering how they would look on my Zn. Does anybody know (ballpark) what it might cost to get wheels chromed?

Well, I'm planning on having my ZN wheels chromed, and I had the wheels on my last car (93 Probe GT) chromed, and it cost me about $500. I haven't gone down to the shop to get a quote yet (becuase I'm waiting to see if I can get the chrome center caps) but when I get a quote I'll let you know!

Yeah, At Cougar Fest last year the designers were all taking notes on how we had spaced out the letters...That is so cool!
