View Full Version : Crutchfield Radio Installation Kit
I tried to use the search, but it didn't work. I have this installation kit from Crutchfield for my Sony CDA-750x cd player. The kit has these tabs on the bottom of it. The guy at Crutchfield said to cut them off, but now the kit with the radio in it slowly slides out as I drive. Is there some way to fix this? They already sent me another kit.
Either use the long tab that comes with the headunit, bolt it to the back of the unit and attach it to something behind the headunit. Or, use two small screws and insert them into the corners of the heaunit. That is what Nola did with his conversion kit, and it worked great.

Mont, how does the installation kit look? Does it mount flush with console, doe sit look really professional? Just curious.
eww man! the ugly, ill-fitting Crutchfield kit!
Using screws or some sort of adhesive is about the only way to get those things to stay in the console... because they either 1) dont fit correctly when you install them, and won't stay in the hole, or 2) they break after you install them, and won't stay in the hole! Ugh.. I went through three of them (only paid for one) before I finally got tired of messing with them and went out and bought a kit from my local audio shop... paid about $5 more for it than the crutchfield one... but i have had NO PROBLEMS with it since I got it... plus I just looks better and fits better!
My advice... dump the Crutchfield kit now and buy a better one from an audio shop.

I agree, the crutchfield kit I got was terrible, slid out without the car even moving. I did get it to stay in with double sided foam tape on the bottom, but that's kindofa hassle, especially if you wanna take it out for mods a lot. I found the metra turbo kit works well, and stays firmly in place, and it's like 15 bucks, with a little pocket for cd's and stuff, although i used it as a switch panel.
the thing I liked most about the metra kit, was the little slide tab that came with it to attach to the back of the radio, and it goes on the slide the factory radio went on to support the back of the din chassis, takes some of the support stress of the front of the radio.

On both the kit I got from Crutchfield, and the one I bought from Best Buy, I had to use the metal support bracket that came with my head unit to keep it from falling out. With the Crutchfield kit, I just screwed the bracket into the head unit and bent it in an L shape, only with the L on its back. The end of the L fit at the bottom of the mounting kit and rested nicely on the tunnel. I did have to put the head unit in the kit first, then slide the whole thing into the car. I had to do the same thing with the kit I got from Best Buy (I don't remember what kind of kit it was, but it has the pocket). Except this time, I had to put a funky bend in the bracket to make it work.
When using that support bracket, the head unit is securely in the car, and I'm still able to get it out if necessary (it's kinda difficult, I have to reach behind and pop the tabs to get it to release).
The kit is black with 2 tabs on the bottom of it. The slot is in the middle. It has 2 tabs on each sides.
Thanks for all of the replies. I think I'll take ccc3 advice and but a better kit.
