View Full Version : How much room is under the hood?
Does anybody know how much room there is between the hood and engine. Actually to be more specific, between the hood and just behind the UIM cover.
I am trying to design something that would work with the hood scoop, but for obvious reasons, I can't just look to see how much room is in there.
It looks like less than an inch.....

Fett, this is what you do. Get a lump of clay, or something similar, and put a piece about 2" or 3" high on the intake (or where ever you want to measure the hood clearance) and then close the hood. Open it back up again and measure the height of the clay and you have the hood clearance. Just make sure you get some clay that won't stick to the hood because when you open the hood again it could pull it and stretch it out giving you bad readings. One thing you can do is put a little oil on the hood or baby powder on the clay to keep it from sticking. I did this on my Mustang to make sure that my air cleaner would fit underneath my new fiberglass hood. Hope that helps.

Great idea 155...I had the same thought yesterday when I was trying to figure out the same thing...unfortunately I don't have any soft clay, just hard modeling clay.

I gave him that advice last night. Except my preferred method of testing was a ball of warm wax. ;)
